How's about we change the tone. Let's talk about programs you respect that are NOT the one's you normally root for. Class coaches, class players, class fans, isolated incidents of good deeds, anything to get out of the funk the other thread is putting me in.

Creighton - Kirsten Bernthal-Booth came from a community college background and pulled that program up from the depths to a very serious challenger for the Missouri Valley Conference championship. Quality academics, athletics and coaches. And genuinely nice people too.

Minnesota - obvious reasons, Hebert, players have always been solid people Penn State (ouch!) - don't know why, just do UMD (University of MN - Duluth) - Good DII program Concordia of St. Paul - See UMD above Northern Iowa - from a perspective from afar, like the way the they compete

Illinois, Minnesota, PSU, generally great places to visit for volleyball.
Let me say something nice about three other programs. California was in Madison a couple of years ago for NCAAs and got clocked (at least my recollection was a clocking). They ended up at the same place as us for a post match dinner, and the players and Rich Feller saw us in our Wisconsin Vball garb, began talking to us, were very pleasant and complimentary. Andy Banachowski at UCLA, 7 years ago now when Wisconsin beat them in the Regional Final that had some, let’s say, close calls in Game 5, was incredibly classy and gracious after a long, tough match. Oklahoma was here last year or the year before for a tournament. Players, family, and coaches were very nice and friendly, looking for suggestions for things to do and places to eat in Madison, seemingly genuinely interested in us. These are the sorts of things I remember as much as on-the-court accomplishments.

A few years ago, some friends and I were talking about Leland Stanford, and how you just don't see too many people who start their own colleges these days (and then name it after themselves). We figured it would take a lot of money to do it, but an appropriate amount of arrogance. In the end, we thought that perhaps Larry Flynt would be the type of guy who could do it. Flynt University Of course, then the discussion got to the question of what is the mascot for the athletic program, and I won't reproduce that here.

And law school!

I'm not sure the "Graphic Arts department" will get a lot of international respect, however.
But it would probably be popular.

Well - Leland Stanford, Sr didn't actually name it after himself. He named it after his son Leland Stanford, Jr. Of course we refer to it as a "Junior Univerisity". ;D You forgot Oral Roberts and Bob Jones. There's also Johns Hopkins and Harvey Mudd.
