Hasn't UW won the last two in Seattle? That gives the Huskies an edge. Last two against Stanford? UW hasn't lost to Stanford in Seattle since 2002... and Washington should have beat them that match, I remember it. History is on our side, but history doesn't win matches. However, Stanford hasn't even won a SINGLE GAME in Seattle since '03 I think. This year is a bit different though, we have a freshman setter and 3 total freshman starters (most of the time.) Yes all true, but we also return plenty of experienced players who have lived those previous home match wins (Morrison and Deesing were apart of the last 3), a coach who seems to get fired up at home, and a fan base that is unrivaled in the Pac-10...plus it doesn't hurt that UW is still pretty talented. Granted not as talented as Stanford, but the girls up here in Seattle are nothing to be ashamed of. And talent only gets you so far when you play the Huskies in Seattle I CAN'T WAIT!

Oh I'm not saying we aren't talented, far from that. But we are going to get a lot more talented next year. In fact, if we don't win the national championship in 2009 AND 2010, I will be disappointed!

Purdue should have votes, if not a place in the top 25. There are about 6 teams getting votes that they're better than.
Duke will stay where they are until someone beats them, same with Dayton, which might not happen real soon.

Seems strange without Purdue in the polls but still 10 more polls to go.

CSU lost to Utah the previous week. Since that loss they beat BYU, UNLV and SDSU.

Colorado State has a Pablo of 17. Of their 4 total losses, 3 were in the first weekend, and two of those went 5-games. They have losses to Hawaii, Oregon State, Michigan, and Utah. Wins are over Ohio State, Pacific, UNLV, and vote getter Miami-OH. I think they're worthy.

Oh I'm not saying we aren't talented, far from that. But we are going to get a lot more talented next year. In fact, if we don't win the national championship in 2009 AND 2010, I will be disappointed! National Championship? Really? I haven't kept up recruting...who are we getting next year?... of the current crop of players, 2 seasons from now in 2009 we'll have Assuming Jill redshirts this year as does Salvo (we'll see have two years left to play at UW?) Seniors- Salvo, Collymore, Miyashiro, Mcafee Juniors- Perry, Carlson, Hagglund Even from that line up we look great. We'll be top notch on the outside, setter, and defense...but where is our middle coming from? Brick and Dees are long gone. I'm not sold on a national championship squad yet...Who are we getting in? we also need a little depth at the other positions. In 2005 when we won our championship we had amazing depth.... which is arguably why we won the thing. In that year, Miyashiro, Brick, Mussie, Sandell, Collymore, and Simmons all SAT ON THE BENCH!... lol. If you put those players on a squad together THEY would make some noise in ANY conference. So yeah...WHO ARE WE GETTING IN! lol I'm excited! hmmm... this is kinda going too much into thought but out of the current crop of top notch players on the top teams, a lot of them will be gone in 2 years. Nebraska will have lost pretty much everyone except Holloway Stanford will have lost everyone except Klineman and Ailes (but they always get the top recruits so you have to pencil them in as contenders) USC loses everyone except Carico and Roleder UCLA loses Spicer...enough said Penn State lose their offensive trio (Hodge, Faucette, Harmotto) Florida loses a bunch of people Texas looks to be ok with really only losing their setter... but Hooker and Engle will be Seniors and their current OH hitter standout Fawcette will be a Junior- They will challenge for the title So from the looks of it I could actually see Washington playing in that title match...again

National Championship? Really? Really, I'm serious. See below: We have two middle blockers coming in '08. Kelcey Dunaway is ranked in the 60s on the senior aces list and is a great blocker and hitter in front of the setter. Lauren Barfield is ranked in the top 10 on the senior aces list and is 6'5" and can jump out of the gym (last year she recorded consistent approach jumps at 10'9" and that can only go up. She will be the best middle blocker in the country in time. You heard it here first. We also have a super athletic OH in this class named Bianca Rowland who may not play right away but down the line she will. And hey, we are still in the hunt for Tarah Murrey *crosses fingers* Sandell and Simmons were not on the team that year, Sandell was at UCSB and Simmons at Northwest U. Mussie was out for the season with a knee injury, the rest we didn't use because we didn't need to, except for Swarbrick one weekend because Deesing sprained her ankle. Nebraska and Stanford will always have talent, especially Stanford. Texas will too because their coach is the best recruiter in the nation, but he couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag come tournament time every year. That may just be a fluke though, they could be very dangerous the next few years. Basically that's why I think we can and should win it those years. We will easily have the talent and coaching so long as we stay injury free!

surprised nobody has mentioned it unless I jus overlooked it, how is Cal Poly still in the polls after losing to Pacific? Pacific is slowly getting back there, but Pacific isn't ranked so how is Cal Poly remaining in the polls.
in reply to ay2013's post, Penn State will still have Hodge in 09 and I'm sure someone will catch you on it later, you fully switched around Julianne and Nicole for Penn State and Texas (referring to their last names)
Faucette players for Texas and Fawcett plays for Penn State.

yeah, sure Bigfan, put it on cruise control against Texas in Austin. Pac 10 is certainly better, having said that, Stanford does not have a team in their conference that is nearly as good as them either. I think Texas at Texas will be as tough as any road match Stanford will face this season. Stanford certainly has more matches against good opponents, but no stiffer test. (snip) Nebraska is on cruise control until the 2nd week-end of the NCAA playoffs. That statement as no basis in reality. A team cannot be "on cruise control" and get by the likes of #7 Texas at Texas, #12 Hawaii, #17 Kansas State in the month of October. Stanford still must play...#4 USC, #5 UCLA ,#8 Washington(twice) and #10 Cal.....Iwould say Nebraska is on cruise control compared to the mighty Cardinal.

I wonder how far Nebraska would drop if they lost to Hawai'i? OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH!

USC and UCLA are still too high.......but so is Washington. Who deserves to be in front if them? Florida, Texas and Washington.
