Also, Ted Bundy is a graduate of the University of Washington and later, the University of Utah Law School (I don't know if he graduated). So, that can't be good for Washington or Utah. But he wasn't an athlete like Simpson or Peter or Phillips, so a distinction can be made.

Perhaps we should just agree that every school has/had their share of bad apples. But boy, Lawrence Phillips and Christian Peter...how the hell are they NOT in prison?

there is basically no big time program that is immune to the trails and tribulations of life, oklahoma, had players taking cash work they didn't do, had players selling cocaine and having AK-47s and thngs, Miami has had a lot of legal problems, Florida state players getting free clothes and shoes, UCS players and alumni raping girls, killing ex-wives & their loves (yeah i know he didn't do it, the glove didn't fit), Johnny Rodgers robbing gas stations on fridays and playing football on saturdays, etc etc. No program really deserves to throw any stones at any other when it comes to this subject

The issue at hand is admitting people who have no business being admitted. At risk students, with suspect history. If you don't want trouble, don't recruit trouble. The presidents of these institutions need to start firing coaches who continue to bring in people who embarrass the school. If you lose you get fired. but if people in your program rape, rob, sell drugs, beat their girlfriends your safe. Thats a nice message.

Admitting problem kids will always take place because coaches, ADs and University presidents can sincerely and credibly argue:
I really believed I could reform the kid. He just needed a good support system like our team and good role models like our coaches and senior players. Everyone deserves a second chance.

excatly right Wolfgang, another things is, you don't always find out about these problem, and alot of time they don't have them till they get away from home. Also, these are the top players in teh country most of teh time, The ones that win national titles!!!, If you don't get them someone else will, so to yes keystone, coaches get fired for losing, well these are the kids that make you win, and when it comes down to my life, my family, my job, i think i'm going to do what it takes to win........and to say because a kid messes up, he doesn't deserve a second chance is ignorant, hell even the enron execs were just realease and are still millionaires, I just have a hard time telling a kid because he got in a fight and beat someone up in high school that he shouldn't be allowed in college, especially if he qualifies, which mostly all these kids do to able to step on the feild.................if you aren't going to recruit these kids you better change your expectation level, after all when is the last time Stanford, harvard, yale, duke, etc, won a national title

your mixing kids who a lot of these kids grew up in rough inner city live and this is what they saw everyday and they lived their whole lives, the only ways they see to make it out and better their lives is through sports, they are brought up to do what they must to survive............and then you have the vball players that are mostly brought in in suburbis paying thousands upon thousands of dollars for club vball and things raised a totally different life, in most situations they are exposed to alot of the things these inner city kids.....you cn't mix or compare the two in this situation, totally different

I don't disagree with your points. There are many kids out there whose lives have probably been saved by being in a program with a support system, other good kids etc.... I also agree that sometimes a player has not had prior trouble. But when kids are continually in trouble and only suspended, that is wrong. If you beat your girlfriend, possess a weapon illegally, sell drugs, steal a car, your gone. No exceptions.
