i think the IU fans have been here all along, but this is not a 'hope' board. there aren't many messages/articles about .500 average teams. the facts are this IU team is not much different than last year - just better at what they do. you do have the two frosh MH, and hall at O2, and a new setter. since '04 this program was trying to get back some of the recruiting/scholarship/setter problems it had. although they aren't top 20 yet it is obvious the depth has finally helped them - the holes have been filled. some of their wins have come w/ the veteran MH in the match (allison/moddrell) so there aren't that many new pieces to the puzzle. they have found a way to win points when it matters. how many teams are undefeated in game 4 & 5 this year? not many i would guess.

I'm not "hoping" for anything. There are threads, now and in the past, about the .500 IU team because I put them there. After 4 years of college being personally involved with the team, including the last tournament appearance, I'm very excited about the change in the positive direction that Dunbar has initiated. Good for the girls, good for her, and good for the school. There are eleven Big 10 matches left, however, let's hope consistency can be established.

Funny, we just talked about how Purdue should be recieving points in the AVCA poll. Do people still think so now? And I say this with no disrespect to IU. I didn't realize Hall was playing there! They got a good player in her. It's still the same team. I can more aptly answer this question on Sunday morning after their trip to Ann Arbor

Hall was going to transfer to C of C before Dunbar got the job at IU.
There have been plenty of IU threads, but most of them were speculation as to when Weismiller was gonna get fired.

this is very exciting. the big ten seems to increase its competitiveness. I think its great for the conference. IU and Purdue won't have it easy at michigan tho

I watched the game last night (actually twice) and I was quite impressed with IU (at least compared to where they had been in the past). The frosh setter was very good, and I think they will be even better next year even though they are losing their RS. Dunbar is doing great things in her first year there.

Either IU is going to wear Michigan out or make them really mad.
I wish we were playing Michigan first...

the past doesn't matter, but last year in ann arbor the hoosiers blocked everything in site, got virtually nothing from short, and zulauf (a medical red-shirt) at O2 had a big night. and there you have it, a five-game win on the road over an undefeated top 20 team. now to the present, michigan has a great setter and a phenomenal libero w/ the same remaining roster. iu has young, exciting energy at MH, a real solid pure O2, and the same remaining roster. is zimmerman (S) and selsky (L) enough of a change to make the difference? also, last year the wolverines had miller hitting some OH which they changed later in the year. the key is ditteon and hall's numbers for IU. obviously they can have short be really bad and still win. when she is really good they throttle a team (i.e. the buckeyes - which was SO GOOD TO SEE).

I watched this match yesterday on DVR. IU looked great - I was really impressed with the freshman middle. Random question - does Merlau always look that pissed off when she's playing? I noticed it first in the Purdue-U of I match, and noticed it again yesterday. Not sure if she's just a really intense competitor or if she's really frustrated, or a combination of both, but I didn't see her crack a smile in either match.

Danita is intense. Even when off the court, she can glare at you pretty seriously. She's pleasant, but just very focused.
Lynch is much the same way, especially on the court.

I don't know if anyone can match Dildine's intensity, though. I am glad she graduated and took that nasty serve with her.

Brittany Dildine didn't graduate - she moved over to the basketball team. (yea!)
And Danita is very soft-spoken off the court.

I was going to put in a comment about how, in fact, Danita is very pleasant off the court, at least when I've talked to her. She doesn't smile a lot, though.
