Nice win by Hawaii tonight... I must admit that we didn't show any intensity the first two games... Finally picked it up the 3rd game, but it wasn't consistent...
The re-match WILL be a much more competitive game...
I was impressed by Ching... He has monster springs in his legs... yikes...
As far as ANY Hawaii fan EVER talking trash on the conduct of Long Beach athletes... PULLLEEEESSSE don't EVER make fools of youselves again!
#17 Delano Thomas is THE MOST CLASSLESS a**-hole, cocky S.O.B. athlete that i've ever seen!!! You should have seen his response to little heckling... It was NOT AT ALL anything offensive, but he responded with several remarks, and SEVERAL BIRDIES... Yes, you read that right... He displayed his middle finger to us SEVERAL times... And for no other reason than to be a cocky a** punk...
I have NEVER seen that kind of conduct from a Division 1 college athlete... He is a POOR representative of your institution of education... plain and simple...
As for the other Hawaii athletes, they were okay... We actually exchanged rapport with a few of them in the endzone sidelines... But #17 is by far the worst in terms of representing your school... Way too much interaction with the crowd... AND WE AREN'T EVEN playing in the game...
But yeah, the re-match WILL be more competitive... Friday night will be a better turnout in the Pyramid, and it's Greek Spirit Night... So Mr. Thomas isn't gonna have a fun time...
GO BEACH!!!

SDB, didn't the refs see Thomas doing his birdies? Gestures like that can get you a yellow card!

That's too bad the refs didn't see it. Did he do it to the crowd or the LB players?

Really? Poor decision on Thomas's part. BUT.... There ARE such things as rivalries (and hell...the Beach/Warrior one is entertaining to watch), and tempers can flare no doubt. Talking back to the fans is normal in many sports nowadays, college and pro. If you haven't figured that out, than where have you been man? Now, their are some things I think are very disgraceful and plain STUPID like sticking your middle finger at the fans---not cool at all. But yenno, players make dumb decisions sometimes. I AM surprised that Thomas was the one though, he gives the glare sometimes through the net, but for the most part he is calm and cool on the court. Hmm.... OH and BTW...um....one of YOUR LBSU players slipped the "birdie" at the SSC crowd last year so is he quote: "THE MOST CLASSLESS a**-hole, cocky S.O.B. athlete" I guess that Long Beach player is a quote: "POOR representative of your institution of education... plain and simple..." Hmmm......interesting huh? Let's be real, these are college athletes, not angels OK? They aren't going to the goody goody guys all the time. Your being pretty harsh on Thomas though. It's funny how you defend your women's team when posters made personal attacks on them, yet you can call players a-holes and son of a itch??? Simmer down. It ain't good for your health I dunno, I just find it funny how fans can attack the players verbally (whether it be harsh or not) and expect nothing back....

Don't defend Delano, thats just something you do in any sport be it middle school basketball or senior bowling ! Delano is a firery player and likes to stare others down on court, thats ok, but never is it right to give the crowd the finger, never !!!

That's just the thing... tonight was relatively mellow...
The energy was QUITE LOW for the most part most of the match until the 3rd game...
We really didn't get into it - NOTHING OFFENSIVE... just a little fun talk... normal GOOOOO BEACH chant... etc...
He started off with the "which one of you?" after he served an ace or something...
All heckling tonight before the BIRDIE was far from offensive... If anything, he escalated it...
And YES, I know about being a college athlete... I played a sport last year for Long Beach State... RUGBY that is... THE MOST ROUGH and brutal game on earth... So PULLEASE don't tell me about college athletes and what they tend to do... I know a JERK when I see one thank you very much... All the jerks that I encountered on the field not only flicked people off, they stepped on their faces with their cleats... AND YES, I HAVE HAD MY HEAD STEPPED ON BY CLEATS...
As for an LBSU athlete doing the same to the Stan Sheriff Center crowd... Well I wasn't aware of that, but that's just as unacceptable...
Yes, we are rivals... But tonight, there wasn't much talking across the net at all... Once again, energy was relatively low most of the match... The only one with the smack was THOMAS... I didn't pick on him for no reason you know...
GO BEACH!!!

Did Thomas actually flick the crowd off during the match? Or was it after and did Mike Wilton see what he did? Because knowing Mike Wilton, I don't think he would have tolerated that behavior and I think Delano would have seen the bench after his behavior. So did Mike Wilton not notice Delano's gestures to the crowd?

I am in no way defending Delano's conduct, but, is this what sparked LBSU to win game 3? Looking at the score, it seems with the exception of game 3, LBSU was getting toasted on their own court.

I think Thomas is a nice guy, but I've noticed that many of the players are real a-holes on the court. I agree with most of you-- it's not cool to give the finger, especially to the crowd. But I just think we shouldn't judge him based on what he does on the court. Adrenaline and competition make most of us stupid.

I still wonder who runs the Warrior volleyball team. Is it Mike Wilton or Costas and Delano? If even half the things these players have done are true, and had been done on pretty much any other UH team (men's BB excluded, I don't know what's up with Riley Wallace either) they would be riding the pine until they fixed their attitudes. I find it embarassing to have our state represented by trash talking, birdie flipping, antagonistic players.

As far as LBSU players are concerned, I remember back a couple of years ago when Dave Mckenzie had to sit out a few matches for mooning the USC fans. Talk about classy SDB. Take it easy.

I wasn't going to weigh in on this discussion but what the hell! All in all Hawaii beat the snot out of Long Beach last night. We were competitive in game #1 to a point. In game two they blew us out, Game 3 was very exciting and competitive, shades of the old SOS matches(which were one helluva lot more fun to watch than rally scoring, IMHO). Game 4 was a replay of game 1. All in all Hawaii was a far superior team last night! Except for game 3 they were able to score consistently in the critical situations. I sat in the end zone, not too far from SDB by the way, and did not see Thomas' gestures or hear his remarks. All in all I thought that the players were very well behaved(except for Thomas). I have certainly seen much more "spirited" interaction between these two teams in previous years! Hawaii has 3 players, two of whom Long Beach has no answer for, Thomas and Ching. The 3rd is your former POY. Hawaii put it to the Beach last night, pure and simple! They don't beat themselves and we made way tooooooo many unforced errors. I agree with SDB that Friday night's match will have an intensity level far beyond what we saw last night. And Long Beach may even win, but right now UH is a far superior team.
