The question with Lee's hiring at Virginia will not be how successful he and the team will be, but rather, will the rest of the conference wake up and try to catch up on salaries, budget and assistants.
With the added position and an assistant's salary that pays more than at least one if not more of the other HC's in the conference, UVa just upted the ante.
They may have gone into it the wrong way, but they came out smelling like roses.

What additional position? I thought there were limits on numbers of volleyball coaches and staff. Will they add more at UVA?
I agree with JIC, whether the rest of the conference decides to put more emphasis on, and money into volleyball is a good question.
The changes at Maryland will show an early indication. They have good sports programs there and are well funded. It always looked like their voleyball gym was a minor afterthought in the Comcast Center, even though they have sometimes had successful years.

I would think the "other position" would be a Director of Ops, I don't believe UVA has had this position in the past.

The other ACC programs can either keep up or be left behind. Lee's hiring is a good thing for the ACC

To add a Director of Volleyball Ops, to be the highest paid coach in the conference and to get assistants salaries increased, one to which is more than other head coaches in the conference, is a huge step.
I'm sure there was more than that as well - budget, etc.

Time for someone to make life uncomfortable for everyone else in the conference, and drag the conference into the 21st century.

I find it "a-maes-ing" that before an official announcement is made, not only has the name been leaked, along with hefty salary numbers, salary increase for a yet-to-be hired assistant, and an announcement for a non-existant job. Why has no one leaked out the names of the non-existant 2nd assistant's unborn children?
Does anyone know what is really true here?

With confidence...yes I do.

I would certainly hope that before any official announcement is made that the current Huskers are told 'in person' and that hasn't happened yet. So until it does, I'm in denial.

I know what is true, but evidently I am not allowed to post it with out receiving permission from the state of Virginia or P-Dub.

There had been debates earlier on if Maes would be a good head coach or not and I can vouch that he will be. It was mentioned that being an assistant is different than being a head. Well at Cal, Maes was the head coach there (even though his title said otherwise) and ask any former players of the Feller/Maes combo and they will say the same. Maes ran the practices, scouting reports, had a whole game plan for the year from day one. (I would like to mention here that Chris Bigelow is in charge of recruiting and does an amazing job and she is also a great coach and asset to the coaching squad at Cal, she I completely respect and is in no way in this debate, Maes I respect as well and Feller is a big HECK NO) Feller would routinely try to take over practice and ruin the run of things. He would not even know the correct line-up to put in a game (messed it up more than once) and never gave credit to where it was deserved and this was to his two great assistants (Maes and Bigs). He is not a man of his word, and thus I do not respect him and believe that his coaching abilities are less than adequate to even be considered an assistant coach. His selfishness is what has gotten him where he is today.
Maes will do amazing at Virginia and will take the ACC to a whole new level.
