The issue is not her ability to coach and I think the fact that her last two teams were not winning is also secondary. She has really broken two programs down. Poor performance, low morale, people leaving. That is the issue, and it should be. I've heard coaches say that they wouldn't let a kid go to Iowa with out saying something to them about her coaching ability, even before they address her coaching style. Regardless of her own coaching ability, I haven't heard anyone question that her husband is an extremely capable volleyball coach. No matter where she's going, he's going to come as part of the deal.

"She has really broken two programs down" Sorry, Iowa is in BETTER shape than it was prior to her arrival. Just too many positives. There are as always, TWO sides to the Iowa story. Her record at Iowa was not good, however.. attendance was up every year camps went from almost non-existant to well attended the vball team lead the Univ Graduation Rates of all athletic teams 3 of the 4 years Cindy established relationships with club and high school coaches that were destroyed previously she actually recruited and offered and gave scholarships to iowa hs kids, which had NOT been done by previous coach

If I read the rumors correctly, the problem had more to do with her interpersonal skills rather than the training or strategy.

i have heard the rumors, know the young women, know the coaches, and again say, there are two sides to this story. But to trash one side or the other without knowing details, just isn't worth it. You are correct though, that there were personelle issues, more than other things. Also, losing drags on everyone! But, losing your 1-2-3 hitters in beginning of season is a LOT for any team to bounce back from. If Smales, Walters, and Schipper all stay healthy, Iowa goes .500 and this is a different story.

You mean overall, not in the Big 10, right?

yes, overall. I think about 8-12 in Big Ten, maybe 7-13.

Coaches oftentimes are so focused on winning that they forget that they are educators too, and player development is both a physical and psychological enterprise. What amazes me is the number of players I've come across who graduate from large conference programs who are deeply disappointed in the overall experience.

Athletes often are negative after losing their final match of their career and like to find somebody to blame or some type of an excuse. It is getting worse every year in this regard.

I am often amazed at how some players today believe it is their "right" to be a scholarship athlete at the Division I level and take all the benefits of this opportunity for granted. It is getting worse every year in this regard. Too bad women's volleyball is finally becoming like men's football and basketball.

"She has really broken two programs down" Sorry, Iowa is in BETTER shape than it was prior to her arrival. I tend to agree that Iowa is better than it was when she got there. There is certainly better infrastructure there. Then again, given the state it was in when she got there, there darn well better be. That said, I would not call her stint there successful.
