The men went to five with Venezuela, the women went to 4.

No matter what happens in the finals, I think these games are a rousing success. Beating Italy, Cuba, China, Japan, Poland, getting a medal. Seriously, who imagined any of that for this team, esp. the way they looked against Cuba in prelims? You go Lang Ping Uh, how the team looked against Cuba? How about after the team beat Venezuela in five? Great job Team USA! No matter what happens in the finals, I think for the team and all they have been through, the silver will feel like gold to them... but I would still love for them to come away with the gold. Let's hope that whoever they play, Lang Ping will have the team ready to battle and not be nervous and tight. Well, against Venezuela, I chalked it up to having a hangover from the Cuba pounding. But point taken. It wasn't until the 5 game win over China that I think it all started to click for this team.

Wouldn't it be ironic if the United States faced China in Beijing and came away with the gold, considering that China beat USA in LA in 1984? And it yet again, it would be Lang Ping leading the charge...
GO USA!

This is great!!
What's been nice over the past two matches is to see all of the different personalities on the board rally behind Team USA. It's great to see everyone cheering for the same team for a change. I share in your happiness... Just one more to go before Gold.

I really wonder what will happen if a team finally puts pressure on Brazil. They haven't dropped a match yet.

Except of course baldy boy... who loves to give backhanded compliments. Wonder what he'll come back and say now? Probably still doesn't think Berg is a great setter, no doubt...

What we've seen from Berg was tremendous. She was the setter for virtually all of the matches at WGP and her performance was poor in Japan. But remember, JLP is doing a double-sub with Ah Mow, so the pressure isn't all on Berg like in WGP.

Aguero usually serves us off the court also, and look what happened today. If I were a betting sort of person, I would have put USA as a 2:1 underdog to Cuba and a 1.5:1 underdog to Italy for individual matches. But my intuition told me the USA would hang on long enough to win against Italy (whether because of Aguero's situation or other reasons, Italy has executed well, but all tournament something about the team just seems... subdued). Furthermore, I felt that if USA could beat Italy they would achieve some ineffable strength at which point their chances against Cuba are straight 1:1. I had this weird, illogical feeling USA would play for Gold as soon as the draw was announced, although not even in my wildest dreams did I see us getting total revenge on the Cubans with a dominating sweep! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! AND I HOPE EVERY 2008/2009/2010 NCAA GRADUATE IS WATCHING THIS AND THINKING, "HEY, THAT COULD BE ME SOMEDAY!"

I could not have been more amped to see the US win tonight. Everyone played out of their minds, plus it helped that Cuba practically gave us a game's worth of points on errors. Either way, I wouldn't mind seeing a US/China rematch for the gold...

WAY TO GO NICOLE DAVIS -- YOU STEPPED UP BIG TIME IN THE LAST TWO MATCHES AND GAVE US REASON TO BE PROUD

I am so in love with Logan Tom right now. USA team looked like the Cuban team we knew.
And of course, Lang Ping is a goddess. She definitely deserves to have her face on a postage stamp. By the way, did the team take alternates? DIdn't see anyone other than the 12.

FWIW - Here in Seattle I have the Olympic choice of track or ........SPEEDWALKING! Are you kidding me? ugh I know right?...... in seattle too...I chose speed walking I'm in Seattle. It was live on CBC, except for when they cut away for the finish of a sailboat race. But that was cool with the high winds, so I was OK with it.

I love the whole team. Very impressed by the whole team effort. But...Willoughby takes the cake for me. She is so reliable off the bench and made me laugh everytime she hit.
Her hits....I mean...who does that? Anyone know her total hit percentage for this tournament thus far?
