I'm gonna smile extra hard on Tuesday when America tells the Republicans to !!!!###$$$!!! off! I'll be laughing all the way from January 20, 2009 till November 6, 2012 while Obama has to kow-tow to every promise and or secret handshake deal he made with his party, PACs, big campaign contributors, and foreign interests, to get elected. On the local front in Hawaii, I don't wanna hear any whining from your sorry ass when they raise taxes to take care of every meth-head in the Islands, and provide them with food, shelter, cellphones, cable TV, IPods, and hugs.

None of that matters to me. On the local front in Hawaii, I don't wanna hear any whining from your sorry ass when they raise taxes to take care of every meth-head in the Islands, and provide them with food, shelter, cellphones, cable TV, IPods, and hugs. I'll gladly pay extra taxes to help those in need, no skin off of my back.

You guys have to list yourself on the roster twice for gender purposes.

... The Republicans did have control of both houses in 2005, but short of the 2/3rds majority to pass laws solely on partisan voting. ... You don't need 2/3rds majority to pass laws, only to override vetoes. Are you claiming Bush was at fault then? Your argument works better claiming the current Democratic majority has no real power because they don't have the votes to override Bush's vetoes. All the more reason to put a Democrat in the White House. Blaming the minority party for problems that started when the majority party had control of ALL 3 branches of government is just plain ridiculous.

Blaming the minority party for problems that started when the majority party had control of ALL 3 branches of government is just plain ridiculous. Ok, so I was wrong on the 2/3rd majority issue. But the fact still stands that the Democrats put the roadblock on GSE reform back in 2004/2005. "The effort failed with Democrats in lock-step effort against the Republicans efforts to implement regulatory reform of the Housing Finance industry. Again, in 2005, there was yet another Republican-led effort: the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005. Four Republicans’ names were on the Senate version of the bill, and twenty Republicans’ names were on the House version. The bill was killed because Democrats in the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs unanimously voted against the bill, and Senate Democrats signaled their intent to filibuster its passage." ... The bill was killed because Democrats in the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs unanimously voted against the bill, and Senate Democrats signaled their intent to filibuster its passage... Don't believe everything you read. First, the Democrats couldn't have killed the bill in committee, since the Democrats were the minority group in the committee. Second, signaling intent to filibuster a bill does not prevent a bill from being sent out of committee. Third, no actual bill was ever presented, and no actual filibuster was ever carried out by the Democrats. Fourth, only the Senate can filibuster; nothing prevented such a bill from at least being produced or passed in the House. Fifth, even if an actual bill was passed by the House, and the Senate version was actually being filibustered, the Senate could've threatened the nuclear option as the Republicans have threatened to use when facing possible filibusters of judicial appointments in the Senate. Sixth, just like Republicans talk the good talk of smaller government, but when finally given full control of the purse strings they've gone hog wild--Republicans talked the good talk of "fixing problems", but never walked the walk when given the real opportunities to do so. They've had their chance, and they blew it.

Don't believe everything you read. Sounds good. I'm going to apply that to every single anti-Republican, bash McCain, bash GWB thread ever posted here on VT. Thanks.

Instead of reading and judging for yourself based on logic and facts, you blindly follow whatever GOP propaganda is put forth--whether true or not; and you blindly dismiss any anti-GOP views or statements without any due consideration. For example, your illogical belief in the GOP spin that the minority party somehow "controlled" the government during a time when the majority party controlled ALL 3 branches of government is just so silly it's laughable.

Blaming the minority party for problems that started when the majority party had control of ALL 3 branches of government is just plain ridiculous. Stop trying to confuse the issue. The simple fact of the matter on the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Act of 2005 is that it never reached a vote on the floor because it was sent back for amendment to the committee, where no action was taken on it, and it died at the end of the session for the 110th Congress. Given the sources previously shown in this thread, it is readily apparent that dissent at the committee level stalled this bill from ever reaching a vote on the main floor of either house. You are, in essence, adopting the same approach that the Democrats did in 2005 to slow-roll any progress on the bill, with your arguments in this thread. By deflecting the main topic at hand, arguing periphery points, and creating more confusion, you ultimately try to shift the blame away. Unfortunately, it's all right there on the Congressional record, readily available to anyone that is willing to research it and get the facts. Too bad all the liberal, Obama-is-gonna-save-us and the country, dipwads here on VT fall lock-step into the same view without doing any real fact-checking.

GOP propganda, huh? Those are all independent sites. What are you gonna tell me next? That all the statements made in those Congressional hearings were fabricated by the GOP spin? Only thing laughable here is you, trying to refute evidence that is a matter of public record.

That's a very good description of exactly what the REPUBLICANS did in 2005. It's all right there on the Congressional record, the Republican led Congress and the Republican led committee NEVER even produced a bill on the topic out of committee. Period. You can spin all you want, but you can't change the FACTS.

What bill was ever introduced into the Senate?? Which Senator tried to filibuster that bill??
