Pulling for USC, but UCI in 5. Good call.

I just tuned in. That UCI player didn't get bleeped, did he? That sure caught Kartch by surprise. Ammerman: "It's F**KIN' awes... No can't say that."...lol.

Now why can't the UCI women win a national title too? May be the fact that there are 311 Division I women's teams compared to 22 men's teams probably has something to do with it.

Another Trojan choke...f****ckin awesome! I'm not a big USC fan (public school versus private school thing), but there is no way you can call their performance a choke. In game 5 at the turn, they were up 8-6, but not in control of the match. You'd have to be in control and then lose to call it a choke. The momentum just shifted from that point. Had that game been to 30, it could have swung another two to three times. I am still impressed by how they came together at the end. You have to make them one of the favorites to win it next year, with the confidence this run gave them. well my hat's off to SC for a job well done, and congratulations to UCI. I was there and it was a great match and fun to watch-except for the venue. I agree with the comments about Ciarelli-perhaps that's why he did not get a bid from ANY frat on campus. His arrogance-as well as his father's are a bit much. Doesn't his dad know that after little league he should stop coaching his son? Having said that, Troy was as always exceptional, and sorry, but in the end, I just can't resist...Ferguson is just himself. Sorry for the loss, but it was a great season overall. Troy is a class act all the way. I can't wait until he loses the yellow and upgrades it to blue and white to go along with the red. He should be ready just about the time Stanley decides to hang up the sneakers. I saw Troy do something a couple times last week at the Bren and again on TV today: the officials called a touch and the SC bench mob as well as a few of the players on the court started to jump up and down with their sour-lemon face. Troy acknowledged the touch that was called in a respectful way and silenced the whining. As much as it was fun to watch that team get hot, I just don't get why USC cries so much. They've done it in every single match I've seen them play this year. The best was at UCLA when they had three separate calls go their way in game 5 and still lost 14-16. I have to believe that the loss at UCLA was in their heads as this game was closing out. If they follow Troy's lead with his calm demeanor, then they will be a contender for the title the next two years. If they continue to let a lack of emotional control impact their play, then they will be quite frustrated with two near misses the next two years. We will definitely see if Ferguson and his staff are good coaches over the next two years. Anything less than a national championship next year is underachieving.

Congrats to UCI!!!
UCI was wearing gold jerseys when they played for the title in 2007 so I loved how they wore the gold jerseys again in this title game. The end result was the same.
Congrats to Coach Speraw who becomes the 1st person in history to win 2 national titles both as a player and as a coach.
UCI will get to visit the White House and meet President Obama! That would make the 2nd President in 3 years for the Eaters!

Great match! It was truly a battle of UCI's business as usual style vs USC's ride on emotion play! Murphy Troy was really impressive; definitely a class act; he's one of those honest midwestern boy.
Ciarelli is a hothead! He does pay too much attention to the hecklers. At Stanford, it worked for him when he was able to channel his anger to go all out with his fearless attacking. Tonight, it worked against him; he couldn't hit himself out of his funk. But he's talented and just a young kid, so he'll only get better. He'll probably work his butt off to come back stronger for next season, seeing how devastated he was at the end of the match. Maybe he'll learn to control his emotions better!
USC returns everyone but the libero next season, so they'll be strong in the next two seasons. I thought it was not a good idea to take so many of the starters out late in set 4. I know Ferguson was trying to get them rested for set 5 but it may have cooled them off/threw off their rhythm and backfired! He's standing way too close to the court; at one play, he got in the way of his players chasing a ball down towards the bench; the ball was SO playable, if not for his statuesque roadblock! LOL
Congrats to UCI & especially its seniors, this final is ammosolutely f**kin awesome! LOL

its a real advantage for uci to have players ther caliber of a #3mb to come in and play so well games 4 and 5, and sr #2 opposite available to come in for an ace at a key moment in game 5 (maybe luck, maybe fate, but it was a turning point), ... gives the coach some nice choices. not sure who their setter is for next year, but if they get one to blend in, I'd have to think they are a top 4 mpsf team again
as for usc - hats off, a terrific run for a team that should be in the mix the next few years for sure. no one is disputing anything on troy, and thought zahn did a real nice job... disappointed in all the stuff about ciarelli - he sure had a a few nice previous games, and sounds like there is some growing up to do ... not sure i understand the disappointment w/ the setter as was commented - I guess its pretty normal to be disappointed with a chance at a title an up 8-6, but hopefully can reflect on a crazy hot run for the team, and some players coming back.
Now about the coaching expectations going forward - they are going to be high going into next year for the target fergy, and then there's ucla, ...

Provo !!!!###$$$!!! sucks.. It took the serve of Murphy completely out of equation. Ciarelli is lucky this year because there is no one good enough to come of the bench for him if he is being stupid.. Next year that won't be that case.. He needs to grow up.
Someone mentioned that Murphy is the only that can keep his cool. That's an obvious lie. Other than Ciarelli and maybe the terrible libero Luke Morris(complains to refs a lot) everyone was pretty calm.

If you watched any of the USC kids during the junior volleyball days ypou would have seen this behavior just about ALL the time. The factg that many of you are shocked or surprised is quite funny.
Troy and Zahn will be their leaders moving forward and nothing less than a trip to Stanford (for a title run) next season is expected. McKibben and Ciarelli had rough reactions to the loss but for that USC squad to be a good one they will have to learn from this defeat.
Ferguson deserves credit for getting those guys there but now he will have to keep them at these heights.
UCI had a junior come of the bench and play brillant in sets 3,4 and 5 and that was the key to the match. Simmons settled the MH position and allowed the Anteaters to flow. Speraw never lost his composure (almost stonelike on the bench) and his team took his lead and played steady throughout.

Provo !!!!###$$$!!! sucks. It took the serve of Murphy completely out of equation. Good point that only USC was affected by the conditions. And it's another good point that it only impacted Saturday, but was not an issue Thursday. I often get a kick out of people who are such huge fans they are sort of blinded from reality, but with you it's to the point where you might need some meds. The venue did not affect one team more than the other. The simple fact is that the better team with the better coach won... plain and simple as that! Ciarelli is lucky this year because there is no one good enough to come of the bench for him if he is being stupid.. Next year that won't be that case.. He needs to grow up. Someone mentioned that Murphy is the only that can keep his cool. That's an obvious lie. Other than Ciarelli and maybe the terrible libero Luke Morris (complains to refs a lot) everyone was pretty calm. Easy there Scooter, you just have to remeber to breathe when some mean people say mean things about your little friends on the internet. Based on your responses here, I'm starting to wonder if you're that bald old guy with the USC baseball cap who dances like crap during the breaks between games and tries freaking twenty-year old college girls. Troy is the calming leader of that team, and that's just the way it is. When everyone starts to fall in step with the whiner du jour, it is Troy who shows another way of handling things. Having watched them play six or so times live this season, I've seen McKibben break out into a couple tantrums and Morris definitely loses it more than he should. Current, Zahn, and Bourne just go along for the ride when this happens, not being instigators, but obviously not well enough coached to be peace keepers either. It's always Troy who says something to get people back into reality and focusing on the next play rather than the world that's out to get them. As far Ciarelli goes, I don't recall him going off on a ref as often as McKibben or Morris. His problem at the moment, and one that will be fixed the more he plays in front of larger crowds, is listening to the fans. If about 100 UCI students were affecting him in the biggest game of his career so far, think what CSUN and LBSU fans will do to him the next three years knowing he's sucecptible to it. Those fans are ruthless. He needs to get that in check, because they'll be coming hard for him. I remember Scott Wall a few years back getting so lathered up at Pepperdine, that he and his mom were ready to pick a fight with the student section. And Ivan Perez seemed like a lighting rod for fan abuse at every road venue. Ciarelli just made himself a target of that sort of heckling at every road game. Maybe he can spend part of the off season dressed as a Yankees fan or Bill Buckner at a home game in Boston or dressed as the Cubs baseball fan from game six at Wrigley a few years ago and go to a sports bar on Addison. That should get him ready for next year's game at the Matadome.

Speraw is not the first coach to win two national championships as a player and as a coach. Dave Nichols played on 3 NCAA title teams- UCLA 74,75,76 and coached two Division 2 NCAA womens titles 2001 and 2004 @barry University... also coached 5 national championship club titles for UC Berkeley in late 80's early 90's...

It wasn't because fans got to him. As far as heckling goes, USC players(in any NCAA sport) get heckled more than anyone else. It's a product of the football program more than anything. The "bald guy" you're reffering donates a lot so he gets good seats to USC events. I heard he is not even an alum.
