Great info! How do the Russian, Italian clubs offer so much with relatively small attendances? Danke! Rich Folk pump money into it exactly. They have many good sponsors that make that possible. In Russia it is mostly the Sheiks, while in Italy Volleyball is sold very well to the media, a lot of games are one the state TV channels, so sponsors give good money.

...and as gobears mentions, yes, you certainly can go from club volleyball to "pro" volleyball. We place a handful of players every year that played JC or Club ball, and in some cases, older players (~24 to ~28 let's say) that have just been playing USVBA Nationals for the last several years. There are so many levels of teams, that there really are spots for everyone. But in many cases it has to be more about the "Experience" and less about the "Volleyball". Remember that "professional" is a relative term here... Non-National Team superstars will not be on teams that have anything in common with the NBA. Anyone interersted in this year's August Exposure Tour (already full for setters and liberos) can see more info about the opportunities we offer at: bringitusa.com/events/firesale_men_2009/index.phpAnd there is some basic info on teams, leagues, European Cups, etc. on our Player FAQ Page here: bringitusa.com/faq/players.phpThe list of teams and leagues that have "payment problems" varies from year to year, and this is an especially hard time to talk about these issues because of the current economic crisis. Teams and leagues that formerly never had financial trouble are starting to see some problematic situations, so more than ever its important to be really sure about any club before signing with them. And players need to be ready to make hard decisions if clubs have money or sponsor problems during these next few seasons until the world's various economies get back on track. I'm happy to answer any specific questions if anyone wants to post them or email me, Tim Tim, I have had friends and family travel overseas with BIP and have never heard of a player not being paid or treated fairly. I've been told to go through you for my future volleyball endeavors in August of 2016/17. Please keep up with this thread as I imagine you will have highly valuable input for all of us in this community. Thanks

Hey, I'm from Germany and I know a lot of guys playing professional everywhere in Europe as well as many top coaches. I agree with you all that the situation in Greece and the other countries you listed is not good, I know a player that is still waiting on three wages as he played in Greece last year. The rest of Europe from getting money is as following: 1. Russia (as said above up to 1 million $ a year) 2. Poland/Italy (I know from a secure source that top 6 players from PGE Skra Belchatow get from 120k to 350k a year, top clubs in Italy can pay this, too) 3. Turkey (no secure source but just in between no. 2 and 4. But I know for sure that they pay and have solid bases.) 4. Germany/France (France may be a little bit higher but not that much, money ranges from 50k at top clubs (BR Volleys, VFB Friedrichshafen) to about 25k at not so good clubs (a year)) 5.Spain, Finland, Italian 2nd Division, French 2nd Division ... (when it gets high maybe 16k for top players, 6k a year for worst.) Of course, not all players get that money, especially youngsters get mostly about 12k a year. A flat (sometimes with other players) and a car is nearly everywhere included. Was chatting with a former Serie A coach and he confirmed the numbers for Italy, but thinks the reserves make from 15-30k, and the starters are probably in the low 100's, with 1 or 2 stars making that 250k.

Thanks for the kind words usatalentscout2015...
I'll take this opportunity to mention that we've got Tony Westman running our Men's Agency these days (the posts on Page 1 of this thread are from 2009 I just realized... Wow!) and we've sort of "started over; from the ground up" to try and make some sense of this market these days. It looks like we'll have 4-5 guys placed from this year's August Exposure Tour (info to be on line in the coming week or so) and a handful more since then. We'll continue to try and find ways to help Americans (especially those without National Team experience) find spots overseas, but its definitely harder and harder with the economic issues in much of Europe...

Hi all, I wanted to revive this thread because I am seriously considering participating in an exposure tour this summer, however I am a little weary at the same time. With the ongoing refugee crisis, economic uncertainty, and recent terrorist activity in Europe - it's no surprise I'm feeling a little apprehensive about hopping continents for the next 7-8 months. Also, I was wondering, given its an Olympic year...do you think the job market for volleyball contracts will be more or less competitive this club season?

Now more than ever opportunities on multiple continents are popping up for Americans. Don't just confine your search to continental Europe. Best of luck.

It depends who represents you and where. You have to choose the agent that will take care of you and not the team
