There were times the other night when Stanford played ASU I thought Gabi Ailes was the best setter on the court . With a lot of right-side offense from the other team, this is pretty normal... against Tulane, there were times where Ailes had more assists than Lichtman because so much of the Green Wave's firepower was from the right side and Cass had so many attacks to dig in her coverage area.

I haven't seen Cal yet this year (maybe tomorrow), but Lloyd spent most of last year picking passes out of cheerleaders' ears, and did a wonderful job bettering them. Besides, she's really cool. Expect better passing from Cal this year, and big things from Carly.

Vbdolly, I can't speak for JCook but if I had to make a lineup with a 6-2 with all the same players that are currently in Nebraska's system, this is how I would go about it. We know that Anderson is good and has the senior leadershipt as does Licht, Mueller, and Banwarth. With the system, they have Morgan Broekhuis and Allison McNeal in the front row together and then in the second wave you have Licht and Delano. (I'm excluding the Hannah and Tara). I probably would have done the same lineup JCook did and this is why: I would put Anderson with McNeal and Broekhuis. You have a freshman and a sophomore. In a tight game situation, Anderson would know who to set and who could handle it. Licht and Delano are reliable. You can give them the ball and they can get the job done. IMO I would want a veteran setter helping bring along the younger hitters than I would want a younger setter. Anderson is able to distribute the ball and get the ball to the right people in tight situations and overall that would help McNeal and Broekhuis. Cook can go to either Delano and Licht in any situation and know that they have a good chance of scoring. But you will need better distribution with the younger players. My two cents worth.

Haen and her serve isn't too shabby either.

Anderson gets my vote for the best setter this year. Too bad she doesn't get to set full time and when she is setting. She sets the frosh instead of Licht. Licht is more terminal and Cook probably has his daughter setting Licht to make her look good. Did it ever occur to you that maybe "Licht is more terminal" this year because Cook is setting her instead of Anderson?

Lexi Zimmerman. No doubt. One of the most deceptive setters I've ever seen. Deceptive, maybe, but how's her location? The best hitter on the team is a left-handed OH. IMO, she has turned below-average Big10 hitters into good hitters because of her location/delivery.

IMO, she has turned below-average Big10 hitters into good hitters because of her location/delivery. although Hunt is not what I would consider a below-average Big 10 hitter (with or without Zimmerman) we do have to recognize that Zimmerman does have to set the LS for a left handed hitter half the rotations she's on the floor. That does place a greater emphasis on controlled set location. But....also to be fair, Zimmerman has had the last three years to set a Left Handed-Leftside hitter

IMO Bateman and Haen benfit from strong hitters around them and aren't the best "Setters" if we look at the setting position by itself. In fact I think if Haen had made some better setting decisions in the Nebraska match Illinois would have taken it (without Debruler and Bangert). and you can look to both these players as a solid reason why both of their respective programs haven't been as succesful as the talent suggest they should.

So a lower ranked team plays at the higher ranked team on their home floor. Missing their top player the whole match, lost the match high kill leader in the third set, take it to 5 sets and would have won if they had a better setter? SO tell me what team would beat Nebraska at Nebraska without their 1st team AA and their AA HM? What setter would have been able to overcome that?

Lauren Plum is the best freshman setter, but we'll have to wait a month or so to see how she stacks up against the upperclassmen.

Lexi is too flashy for her own good. She doesn't need to overhand set all the low passes then fall to the ground. She can easily bump set those. Uh, that's how you're SUPPOSED to set a low ball.....with your hands WHENEVER possible. Bump set only in desperation. You ALWAYS have better control with your hands.
