Murrey had 68 swings last night and is in uncharted territory (1,144 attempts so far (over 100 more than Klineman) vs 979 last year) as far as # of attempts go for her. Gehan had 43 swings and that is by far the most for her. Murrey's stats last night were much like 2009 for her. Gehan's stats last night were much like the rest of the season outside of her great match vs Stanford. Cal really needs to get off to a good start and beat Az in 3. If it goes 5 again, it will be interesting to see how much Murrey and Gehan have left in the tank after last nights melt down.

Weeks ago, I predicted that Stanford-ASU would be a trap match for the Cardinal. Whether Cal was trapped similarly or not, at least Stanford won't be: anyone who beats Cal at Haas is going to get a lot of respect from Stanford.
Driven by RPI, I think both Stanford and Cal will end up with #2 regional seeds.

I'd actually be fine with Stanford, Cal and USC getting #2 regional seeds - it means they won't have to face off against one another. Hopefully UCLA will get sent to the 4th regional as well.

Just when I was about to jump on the Cal bandwagon...now this. Geez, maybe Cal just isn't that good??? A lot of what Cal does- the bunch blocking , the fast paced offense with a lot of quicks and slides, and of course the defense- is dependent on precision timing. When on, it can really throw an opponent (see Stanford), but if you lose your rhythm, you can be in deep trouble.

This is just a case of a team coming in fat and happy (after beating Stanford). Cal will beat Arizona and share the Pac-10 title in the worst case. IMO, since they beat Stanford twice, they are (or will be) the real Pac-10 champion.

On a bad night, there can be a lot of sets to nowhere and opponents might be hitting in a one on none situation. St Mary's runs it well, and Cal (with better talent) has been running it well most matches. Certainly in football, the flavor of the month has been the "pistol offense" as run by Nevada. They run it exceptionally well, and it freaks out opponents who have never seen it. It's been adopted by some teams (like UCLA) that don't run it that well, and have been embarrassed at times with how badly they've run it.

IMO, since they beat Stanford twice, they are (or will be) the real Pac-10 champion. I don't care if it's co-champion or whatever. I just want to be able to buy a T-shirt. ;D There is a small bonus for being the conference champion. The athletic dept is allowed to give either a cash or gift with a certain value (I think in the $300-400 range). I think it can go to any regular season co-champions (dependent on the conference's policies on determining a champion) and conference tournament winners. I think in the WAC, there will be two teams eligible for this award. I think the rules say that a team can't double-dip if they win both the regular season and the conference tournament.

Assuming, and after tonight any assumption is suspect, Stanford & Cal both win Friday, the top 4 is settled. #1: Florida #2: Stanford #3: Nebraska #4: Penn State I'll bet PSU would love that.

I'm sure they would because if this is the seeds I can definitely see Penn State upsetting Florida in the Final Four if these four teams advance that far

But Penn State will have a really dangerous regional.. ALL of the top 4 seeds will. I can't wait for Sunday and to get this tourney underway.

How exactly is Stanford a 2 seed and cal not even in the top 4 if both teams win out? 3 losses a piece and cal beat Stanford twice? Just a bit confused on your reasoning. not judging it, just want clarification on why you think this! Was at the game last night and everything seemed a little... off in all aspects of the game. Passing was just a little... off, sets were just a little off... blocking well... you get the picture. ASU played incredible defense though, got to give it to them!

Stanford has the better RPI, has the better preseason, has the better common opponent match up (Beat USC 2x, split with UCLA, and will most likely have the better record v. ASU), has not "bad" losses (hasn't lost outside of the top ten AVCA, but has the worse head-to-head.

There were at least 3 out of rotation calls. Just watched the Stanford replay and there were a couple of those there too. Wondering what's going on? Are they releasing too early before the serve hits, or are they cheating when they stack their players for serve receive?
