I guess I really don't understand this. Like, why can't you run more power out of the right to generate the offense (ala Lowe)? And why couldn't Howard be able to be middle back coming from the right, if both positions become 6-rotation? Clearly I don't get the rotation restrictions very well. To me, this keeps coming down to who will be effective on the right. So far, I haven't seen or heard of Howard being comfortable on the right. While I think there is a drop from Hodson to Howard on the left. I can't think of anyone who, as of now, could come close to Hodson on the right. I haven't heard of anyone being comfortable on the right. Unless someone steps up big time on the right, I don't see who else can fit in there besides Hodson (that is until 2016 when we hopefully get Plummer). I don't think Bugg is a good enough back 5 setter and Hodson a strong enough RS attacker right now for the RS to become a truly effective out of system option. The quality of the forced back sets of Bugg's really started to decrease as the season went on. It was pretty noticeable. Agreed.

Hentz and Plummer have been named to the GYNTT. They will attend a 2nd tryout to fight for a spot on the team of 12 that will compete at the World Championships in Peru.

This is encouraging from the viewpoint of a Stanford optimist. Plummer’s willingness to devote a substantial block of time to the indoor game this summer indicates she isn’t focused only on the beach game.

The quality of the forced back sets of Bugg's really started to decrease as the season went on. It was pretty noticeable. I would call it more inconsistent from match to match. Bugg did a pretty good job isolating Boukather all season, especially with lower, quicker sets. But obviously isolation is only one part or the equation -- Boukather did a pretty good job using both off speed tips and cut shots when the set location and timing wasn't ideal. Howard can tip with he best of them, but not certain about her cut shots (although she is a solid sand player on the right side where the cut shot is a formidable weapon). Hodson definitely brings more heat and she has shown flexibility reading the block for someone so young. I really think the big issue for Stanford is not about who among Howard/Hodson plays LS or RS, but what happens defensively in the back row now that Gilbert is gone. If Stanford can cover Gilbert's loss effectively, then they should be top two or three and win the Pac-12 pretty easily. OTOH, look what happened to USC last year after Hagglund left. That was one big cluster-F. I understand what you're saying, but a big difference between USC and Stanford is that Howard and Burgess are primary passers all the way around so as great as Gilbert was, there wasn't as strong of a dependence on her as there was Hagglund.

More about timing than anything else. 2015 is an off-year for age group world championships in beach vb. Otherwise, Plummer would be in the sand tomorrow.

Hearing a lot of good things about Alexis Hart, a 6'1 OH from the class of 2017 who plays for Invasion Club. She's uncommitted, by the way.
And I am stoked for Morgan Hentz and Kathryn Plummer to be part of the GYTT. Plummer is known to the volleyball world as a kid with tons and tons of potential. But I am more excited about Hentz and the possibilities of her being Stanford's libero for the next 4 years (if she is indeed going to The Farm).

If she doesn't have the grades to gain admissions, then it's just a pipe dream. She does sound like an intriguing prospect though.

I don't believe Stanford is recruiting her. UCLA is the only PAC-12 school she is considering.

Thanks for the post ... as typical of local broadcasters who don't know a lick about volleyball, they did not show any video of her digging prowess.

"incredibly boring" is an incredibly foolish statement, but at least you have a solution: don't watch.
