I am currently competing in a Chicago national qualifier, and got to see caitie Baird play today. She looks extremely athletic and moves well. However, I don’t see her playing over McClure or earning a staring spot freshman year. She has a couple things that need to be worked on to allow her to succeed at the next level. Potential is through the roof. You all should be VERY excited she’s joining Stanford in the 2019 season. What are the couple things she needs to work on? What are the areas you think she is already good at. From what I saw, she sometimes needs to rio at the ball more. In warmups, you can see how hard she can bang... but in the match it seemed as if she was half swinging. Her vertical could improve. She passed very well but ofc the level of play isn’t insanely high. Her arm swing is a little different looking, but she contacts the ball at her highest possible piont which is good. I think by her junior year she could be a powerhouse player across the nation.

I believe Stanford plays Nebraska this year non-conference as well. That is the rumor, but where? As you know RED doesn't go on the road very frequently during preseason. I *think* it's at Stanford. It's part of a new tournament involving Stanford, Nebraska, Kentucky, and Louisville. Last I heard, which was awhile ago admittedly, each team in tournament will play 1 road game and 1 home game. Nebraska was going to play at Stanford and host Kentucky which means Stanford would host Nebraska and go to Louisville. But it's been some time since I've heard anything on it so it could have changed.

Stanford almost has too many options for OH this coming season. The Cardinal need to have consistent passing first and foremost. Hambly will sort it out in August.
Anyone heard if Xu is playing club now or still recovering? She’s listed on the 2019 18’s Vision roster, maybe she is?

Someone mentioned in the "California Kickoff" thread that Vision 18s were lights-out and that can't wait to see Xu set at Stanford.

Fun little tidbit found on the beach forum: Carly Wopat is becoming serious about beach volleyball, and is Britt Hochevar's new partner. volleyballmag.com/sandcast-011619/Also, the Encore 16's team won California Kickoff 16 Open yesterday, and their head coach is former Stanford player Katie Goldhahn, and assistant coaches include Denise Corlett and Kathryn Plummer. Sounds like a fun team. (I think Millie Muir is the setter.)

Last weekend heard from multiple reliable sources Kami Miner is 99.9% Stanford bound pending acceptance. To back up what “Gavin” and other posters are reporting. Alisha Glass hire was pretty much icing on the cake for her decision. We shall see... I’m pleasently Surpirsed! Stoked to land her!

Word on the street is Miner was leaning almost entirely toward Stanford since at least this summer. The Glass hire I'm sure was very encouraging for her.

The Xu & Miner setter competition should be interesting.

The Xu & Miner setter competition should be interesting. Miner really slots well as a left side hitter similar to McClure given her size and athleticism, but not sure if she's played much on the left side. I don't know if she can pass but her D looks solid. Xu looks to have better setting accuracy at this point in time, but she's a year advanced. Hambly and Glass Childress will have to figure it out I guess.

Still concerned about the pin hitters after 2019. Kipp will likely be the star, Baird is promising as an OH... Fidelak, Berty unsure about... I could see Berty doing well on the right side where she can just hammer.

I could see Berty doing well on the right side where she can just hammer. I liked what I saw from the few times Fidelak entered matches in 2018. She does have range on the right side given she's a lefty. She needs more approach speed and vertical to add velocity to her hits which may be coming because this is her first off season where she really train and hit the weights. Berty needs more speed and vertical based upon the UA match. Baird was better in the UA match, so I'd place her above Berty (right now) in the pecking order. Where they all end in 2020 and whether they make the starting lineup all depends upon their development IMO. We all saw McClure's improvement from 2017 to 2018, so I think we need something similar from the trio of Fidelak, Baird, and Berty. If Kipp isn't a star I'll be shocked. My jaw dropped when I saw he in the UA game, she was that good.
