One thing I find irritating about the men’s game is a player will look like he is near death and then when he doesn’t get the call he springs up and starts running at full speed. One of the Brazil players did that near the end to run the clock...as soon as the stretcher was off the field she jumped off. Came back to bite Brazil in the ass, though. It was during the three minutes of "stoppage time" that the US scored the final goal.

Whew! Thought France was going to win - they played great in the 2nd half. Isn't the US coach from Sweden? That would be pretty amazing to have a US/Sweden final.
Not quite sure on what constitutes a free kick/yellow/red card on fouls.

I'm going to say that taking out his best defender with the score tied 1-1 backfired a bit for the French side.

I'm going to say that taking out his best defender with the score tied 1-1 backfired a bit for the French side. I guess France decided to play to win, rather than to tie. Apparently it didn't work. Gambles are like that. I would guess that with Solo in the net, no team wants to come down to penalty kicks against the US. So we may see teams make decisions based upon that.

Don't think the game against Sweden mattered anyway, both teams had already advanced to the next round.

BTW - the photo of Alex Morgan on the wall of endowed scholarship recipients at Haas Pavilion was from her blonde days. This is all I could find of her from that era:

I was in school with Hope (she was a couple years ahead of me though.) Tough, tough cookie who will do anything to win.

Couple of questions:
1. When, or would they, ever stop the clock? How serious would the injury have to be?
2. Do these players ever get a water break? I know the goalie has a bottle stashed behind the net, but are the other players running for 45 minutes without water? Seems dangerous to me.

Seems dangerous to me. 1 - They don't stop the clock, they add injury time as extra minutes to the end of the match, after regulation time is expired. Makes it a little weird, since no one is really sure how much extra time the ref is going to allow until the final whistle. 2 - Soccer is an endurance sport.

A broken leg, or possible spinal injury, clock wouldn't stop? 2 - Endurance sport, I agree. But what does proper hydration have to do with endurance?
