I am not sure about this, but I thought that it was discussed here a while ago that Wilton will not give a scholarship to a Hawaii high school product player, that he saves them for the mainlanders and international players. I remember hearing something like this as well. I think Wilton's recruting philosophy is something like this: if you are a high level local volleyball player they assume they will go away and won't even try is some cases to recruit you. The local players for Hawaii have always been the under the radar types who were not highly recruited. Clay Stanley, Aaron Wilton, Tony Ching etc, were not considered top recruits out of high school, although they became very good in college. I don't think Wilton even tried to recruit players like Spencer McLaughlin or Kawika Shoji. I agree that they seem to save the scholarships for the mainland or international player.

Kinda reminds me of that old joke:
"What is a Punahou/Iolani parent's worst nightmare?"
Answer: "Their kid gets accepted and goes to UH"
LOL.

When was the last time a Hawaii player was able to crack the starting line up as a freshman. I don't even think Clay Stanley started as a freshman. With limited funding, Hawaii will only give substantial funds to players they think can start as a Freshman. Even that's no guarantee. They've had their share of 'busts' of mainland and international players also. Every program will have their busts, I just think it impacts Hawaii program more so because they have to offer more financial assistance to players to come to the Islands. What happend to the two foreign players who were suppose to the join the team in January? ? Bookumdanoaloha

He already did, in albeit somewhat lesser form (Costas). They had to give back the championship they won with him.

k5 needs to change their camera lense on the camera that is used to show the center court -- it is such a distraction watching a play and seeing that thing on the lense in the middle of the screen!! at first i thought it was my tv screen having a dust bunny there - but now i know it is something on their lense which they refuse to fix!! now as far as penn state goes - they still have a lot of hotties on their team -- l-chicago was a disappointment - only 1 hottie on that team!! what is up with that??
