wow... big MIVA match goes to the buckeyes. OSU takes IPFW on the road in 4. OSU seemed to have served very well. 11 aces.

I guess I was wrong about the MIVA. It looks as if it will be three team race. The Bucks get an impressive win on the road. Since when does Meske become a dominant OH? I guess it is just another sign of guys getting better while in college. Reminds one of Stu Katz, how in his 5th year he became what we all thought he would be.

I wouldn't necessarily say OSU is THAT great a serving team... IPFW has never been known for passing and last night was no exception. OSU executed a lot better and just seemed to have a higher VB IQ than IPFW. OSU was certainly fired up and motivated. IPFW seemed sluggish and didn't quite hustle enough.
I thought Matthews set fairly well. He made some bad sets and some bad decisions but overall he certainly helped his team win. OSU will be there at the end of the year if they play like they played last night.
IPFW is probably more talented than OSU simply by virtue of CJ. The OH and MB are relatively equal but OSU has noone like CJ. which would lead one to believe that IPFW should win more times than not. I think the key to IPFW success this year will be how well Collins and Brock pass. If IPFW passes well they will play with anyone, their offense is balanced enough.. if they don't pass they are mediorce at best. IPFW's best team is when Brock and Collins are on the court. I don't blame arnie for bringing in Quillen but I would have brought Brock back in earlier in game 4 when they still had a chance. On the bright side for IPFW, Josh Stewart is playing really well. Yeah a lot of his hits are junky-hit-em-where-they-aint but he gets the job done. I would like to think that he could be a more dominant blocker but I guess that may come sooner or later.
Conference tourney will be interesting..

People, IPFW didnt passed well in the whole match. Coach ball was "super angry" with the referree because Oh Setter retain the ball in his hands too long. Coach ball just sat there waiting the end of the game. Whoever is "Brian Hemelgarn" is the worst and weak referee in the nation.
Mr. Hemelgarn, THIS IS NOT THE JO's OR A HIGH SCHOOL TOURNAMENT, This is IPFW, ARNIES ARMY. How disgusting is to see that "ball thrower" GRABBING the ball for 1 second and then doing whatever he wants. Dont you have respect for Arnie Ball. How sad is to see your stupidity with the whistle.
The big Stevens brother ia a great player and #1 RS too. Hope the don's can learn from this unacceptable experience.
GO DON'S14

I would have to disagree on Hemmelgarn being the weakest official, he is probably the strongest official men's or women's in the Midwest.

I agree. I have had quibbles in the past with some of Brian's calls, but he does a good job overall.

The other lady reff was horrible too. Too many nets that she didnt called. Ohio won because they OUTSERVED the dons. IPFW pass was weak yesterday... Believe me is going to be another story in Columbus few weeks from now. BELIEVE ME.

vbcosta14- Your "ball thrower" had 53 assists in 4 games. Is that good OSU offense, bad IPFW blocking/defense or "officiating?" OSU won games 2-4 with 30-26 being the closest. Missed net calls and lack of ball-handling calls accounted for all of this? If IPFW had a bad night, then leave it at that. Your hero, Arnie, doesn't make excuses when his team gets beat. Follow his lead. Are officials supposed to show coaches respect by gift-wrapping calls for them? Call a lift on Mathews because of Ball's career record?

agreed. VB and vbcoasta after the PSU OSU match destroyed Mathews for his HIGH BALL and ball throwing sets. after last night I didn't think his sets were "High" at all? they actually run a pretty fast offense. IPFW was setting all of the outside sets really high. no tempo at all really, just throwing it up there and having CJ go bang at it. The reason IPFW lost last night was not the refs missed calls. I can only think of 2 balls in the whole match that were maybe ball handling errors against osu. And i remember 1 net call that was missed but it was against IPFW. OSU beat IPFW from the service line, not the ref stand. There is still a lot of season to be played.
