I use to have such a crush on Daniel Craig when I saw him in one of the Tales from the Crypt episodes years ago.

I usually watch the movie first and then read the book. If I do the reverse, I'll always be disappointed in the movie. The solution isn't to switch the order but to eliminate the inferior medium.

"Humans under 18 don't have sex and don't commit violence."
This ridiculous dogma held by post-1940s American pop culture - and incontrovertibly contradicted by thousands upon thousands of years of human experience - is the reason 99% of YA novels of any serious subject matter will be emasculated and stilted when produced by Hollywood.

Or you do what I hear they did in this movie, and just age-shift the characters. Or at least the actors. Of course, a big part of what was horrible about the whole thing in the book is that they were children. It's the Theseus story. The cruel victors of the war demanding Tribute Children who they kill for entertainment. So Theseus volunteered to be one of the tribute victims, and then he slew the minotaur. Rather obvious parallels to the Hunger Games.
