After watching the NECVA tournament some of the people I think may be deserving of consideration for this include... Setter: Yoder from EMU, and perhaps the setter from D'Youville or the setter from Stevens Outsides/Opposites: Ratliff from EMU, Colosi from D'Youville, Boccichio from Stevens, Praveen from MIT, Maving from Nazareth, and maybe Stoner from Stevens Middles: Cranford from Stevens, Gilliland from D'Youville, and maybe Holden from New Paltz Libero: Detweiler from EMU, and the libero's from New Paltz and Endicott played fairly well and stuck out more than any others in my mind at this tournament. Any other opinions??

From the EIVA, the top D3 conference each of the last 5 or 6 years, there are deffinately worthy players. Setter-Werle from Juniata has to be a shoe-in first teamer. Opposite-Ocasio (JUN) and less likely Fredrickson (SPR). OHs-Sillick (NYU) and Palumbo (SPR) even with his injury... maybe Fritz (JUN) and Nally (SPR) as 2nd team.
This conference features the best middles across the board in DIII, so it will be interesting to see how many of them get AA honors. Middles: Sipe (SPR) .420 hitting and 139 blocks (1.65per/g). Vilven (NYU) 267 kills, 123 blocks (1.15per/g), 30 aces. Barndt (JUN) .438 hitting and 1.08 blocks per game. Wintermeyer (NYU) 265 kills, 108 blocks (1.04per/g). Powers (JUN) .492 hitting.
These numbers are especially impressive considering these 3 teams play in the EIVA, a conference in which every other team is Division I or II.

Sources say that Beiter was not very healthy this season but he is their whole team. Other than that I believe the guys are all worthy. Juniata should have had Powers also up there as I believe he led the country in Hitting %.

Extremely top heavy, with over half the players coming from 3 teams. I'm pretty surprised about the results, a lot of players seem sort of one-dimensional, specifically in the kills-per-game section, which I think is sort of unfair to players on teams with 4-5 "go to" hitters. The idea of a sub-.200 hitter getting All-American because he takes the majority of his teams' swings boggles my mind. Just my opinion. Anyways, the one guy that I say got robbed would be Praveen from MIT. Incredible hops, smart hitter, great defense, a stellar all-around player. Hopefully he'll have a good off-season and get the recognition he deserves next year.

Some things I have about the selections.. Th D'youville libero didn't stick out to me, the EMU libero was the one who stepped up when it became gametime and helped lead that team to NECVA finals. Him or their strong hitter should have made 2nd team or so, especially rather then the Dyouville libero and even the OH for Medaille. I do think the Dyouville setter was the best setter in NECVA, and should have atleast made 2nd team, esp since no setters on 2nd team at all. I would think that Clarke, being such a good team, would have someone on their squad worthy of one of these teams too. Finally, i do agree that Praveen should have made a team, he is a force.

I feel that the D'Youville Libero had a strong season and All-American selections are based on the entire season and alot of factors go into it such as digs per game, recpetion precentage, etc.. Both the setters from Carthage and Juniata standout, Wherle was also on the Junior National Team last summer. I do feel that a healty Beitier from Medaille is overall a stronger player than the kid from MIT, even though his team did not have a strong year. The EMU schedual is quite weak in comparision to any other of the players of the teams that got selected in most peoples opinions. Also the numebrs for the OH from EMU did not really add up to an All American selection, at least not what i heard from the selection comttiee coaches.

Numbers not adding up?? Come on now...looking at the stats the kid had a very impressive season. gp mp k k/g E TA hit% 121 33- 614 5.07 184 1277 .337 on top of the 200+ digs he had, so you tell me how the numbers didn't add up, he got robbed. Also, I don't mean to say anything more about EMU but their libero statistically had a better season that D'Youville's libero, and from what I saw was the class of the NECVA tourney libero-wise...how does he not make it?? Some very questionable selections nonetheless.

EMU did not have many top 10 schools on their schedule whereas the D'Youville schedule had NYU twice, Carthage, UCSC, Stevens twice, St. Francis and Mercyhurst twice. EMU besides playiong the NECVA West schools and Stevens, also had Mt Olive and Lees McRae. That is where I believe the difference is. Competition has to count for something over the course of the season.
Last year, there was a LIB with almost 4 digs a game is he also an All - American. Sometimes numbers are not the only factor. You have to play against strong teams and play well.

You have to play against strong teams and play well. I agree that strength of schedule SHOULD play a factor in the voting process. But where do you draw the line? I'm using Frederickson from Springfield as an example. Yes, he had a strong game against Juniata when Springfield swept them. But as far as I can see from their season stats, there isn't another D-3 matchup they have in March/April where he hit over .250. I realize he's taking the majority of their swings, but isn't that hitting percentage a little low for someone that's being labeled as top 3-4 in the entire division? You could argue that the strength of schedule is the reason for the low percentage, but can you really assume that he'd be a .400 hitter if he was playing different Division III teams? And if so, are the people voting on potential then, instead of actual results? It's just a little unclear to me about how they're deciding how certain players on the list are better than strong hitters who have phenominal numbers, but are geographically in a location where the competition they normally face isn't always top-tier opponents.

if you ignore stats then Carthage, Juniata, and UCSC should have all their players (including non-starters) on both teams because they are clearly the superior players. Stats have to play a factor and if you hit under .250 against everyone there is no way you should be named to either team.
