Well thank god that these coaches and player are now going to a properly run program that has consistently made the NCAA tournament the last several years and is in the top half of their conference. Wait...

I am amazed at many of these comments. Four players and two coaches have suddenly left the team, and everyone assumes that the players and leaving coaches are at fault in this situation. Is this the sign of a properly run College Volleyball Program. Wake up and smell the truth! I am not sure how closely you have followed this thread or how well you know the program. I think the main contention here (at least in the beginning) is that Coley may have either lured LW off NIU's team or used her as a carrot to get the job at WI. I think these are very possible scenarios and based upon what I KNOW about the team are much more likely than calling the quality of the program into question. NIU finished the season with a very low RPI which is a much more accurate ranking of a team than the AVCA popularity poll. Sorry coaches, I just belive in math versus opinion.

That is interesting and I'm sure it's something that Wicinski is taking into consideration as she evaluates different opportunities. I do think however that the right fit is more important than the schools RPI. Nice to see some facts tho, instead of speculation. Thanks!

I highly doubt that attributing the chain of events as a reflection of NIU or Coach Gooden is "barking up the right tree." That's just silly.

southsidevbfan,
Let's refresh...two players that left were not on scholarship and weren't going to see playing time for at least the next two years so you might understand why they might want to find a new situation. One player on scholarship, Dawson, is from Ohio and was just homesick, it happens. Kinda hard to criticize two assistants leaving at the same time SINCE THEY ARE MARRIED! As far as LW, she wants to see how high a level she can play at, but is also apparantly tied in a most curious way to the Pawlikowski's. Please explain more clearly how all that indicates that the NIU program is poorly run.

I have followed the program very closely this year. I have justed started following the posts, and they make my blood boil. I know that Northern played alot of challenging tournaments in the beginning of the year which really helped their RPI. In the past, their RPI hasn't been that high. My point is, I don't think these players left because their team wasn't good enough. I also know that these families are true-blue NIU Huskie fans. I am sure this is a difficult decision, but these girls had to have been very unhappy with the team situation. I think their are others, beside the young ladies, to rake over the coals. As for the Coley situation, since she has accepted the job, without Lauren having committed or even visited Wisconsin, I would say the package deal has no validity. Let's let the young lady evaluate her many options make her own decisions.

I totally agree that a good fit is more important, but the real reason they are there is the education which is what I tell my players when they ask my advice. So academics, fit, RPI in order of decreasing importance.

In response to 9fingers,
I have followed the thread and realize that you don't want to hear any other opinion than your own. From what I KNOW about the team, there didn't need to be any luring or using of LW. Coley's accomplishments stand on their own. As do Lauren's. Can you not even see the possibility that these people just want out of what was, for them, a bad situation? Why does it have to be a big conspiracy theory? Maybe, just maybe, there is another side to this. It is immature to be so close minded. Apparently, throwing Coley under the bus suits your purposes. I can't help but wonder why. I don't understand how a college coach can have 2 coaches and 4 players leave and claim he didn't see any of it coming. Total surprise! Really?

LW can do as she pleases as can the coaches who left its a free country. Great twist to deflect off the scholarship. MAYBE this player was one of those walk on for a year or so and then get some money. Maybe thats what was meant by a scholarship players losing her schollie and being asked to give it up or as coaches can say " it should be about the team making the tournament and this is best for the team so suck it up".. as for both ast. coaches leaving sure they leave together its just a SHAME that another ast. left just in time to make room for another ast coach.. Say what you want its shady and if those involved can sleep at night great for them.
Chitownace - When your assistants manipulate things behind your back aka LOYOLA, things don't turn out well. As many say we will never know so deny deny deny. Coley's will never come out and say. Yea Pete waite offered us BOTH a job if we get LW and maybe others to follow. I mean come on, it will never be resolved...

All I said was that the theory of LW's and Coley's departure being linked is more plausible than calling the quality of the programm into question. I would be surprised if any assistant coach didn't want to move to get to another program they thought would be a step up in their career. I also would not fault a player that wanted to move because they thought the program they were in was not right for them. Lauren was very unhappy at NIU so transfering is a good thing for everyone. I would like to point out that the person who made the most damning fingerpointing is someone who probably has a closer connection with the team than anyone else in this thread and felt strongly enough about it that she had to say something. Players on the team will probably not post here because it is improper to do so. We will not know how they feel.

Let's let the young lady evaluate her many options make her own decisions. According to somebody a few pages ago, Lauren already made a visit. If she does end up at Wisconsin (regardless of whether or not she has to sit out a year), then I will have lost any shred of respect for WI athletics. It is only a matter of time before they announce Coley's husband as the other assistant. FWIW, Coach Waite and Coach Gooden have another link: both are/were involved with the same jrs club. Waite as Technical Advisor & Gooden as a former coach.
