I heard Barboza is taking some time off from the National Team. It would not surprise me if she rejoins the team at some point after the new head coach has settled into the job. I am guessing she still has a passion for the sport.
IMO Barboza will have to re-invent herself as to what contributions she can make to the team for any possible shot at the 2016 roster. IMO she will not make the team based on her play at the net. Barboza will have to do something like try to become the best passer on the team to stay in the running. Or develop a hard, reliable, topspin jump serve. While the odds are long, I would never discourage someone from pursuing their dream.
Now that I am on the subject of the NT, who will be the next head coach? I am surprised there is a thread about the 2016 roster but no thread about who the new coach will be in a few months.
Will USAV have a drawn-out international interview process or will they stay domestic? Would a current college coach be considered? Would Rose or McLaughlin trade a relatively cushy job for a life of airports and hotel rooms? Would Karch be considered before having HC experience? Or maybe the decision has already been made?

What's the issue? Both Hodge and Barboza will be in London. Anyone who knows anything knows that. I don't understand why people are getting bent out of shape... Your problem is not you are often wrong. It is you act like a know-it-all and insult people when you are the one who is wrong. I was clearly wrong. About Bown and Glass too. There was no way to tell in April that Thompson and Miyashiro were going to go. I wasn't the only one who believed that. I'm just more vocal and confident about my opinions. In the end, my predictions/opinions didn't turn out to be correct. But good work finding a post from three months ago that you just HAD to reply to. Everyone knows that my predictions were wrong. You going back through months of posts just to say that again is just pathetic.

My guess is that the next HC has already been selected, but that's just a guess. I also suspect that Hugh has a significant say in who his successor is.

Other players snatched those spots in the last two months.

FYI, Barboza is playing the Hermosa Open this weekend (with Traci Weamer, a good young player), her first pro beach event since 2005.

I'm curious why you thought she had a spot on the OG team. She was mostly a service sub and not a very effective one at that.

I remember talking about Scott Touzinsky in response to volleymd's comment about the 2008 Men's team and the value that intangibles played in the final few spots for that team's selection.
I posted that when the technical skills among players are about the same, I think intangibles give players the edge. I don't recall saying that intangibles would be the primary reason I would use in deciding to take players though.
If players were neck and neck in the last couple of roster spots, I think you go to which players bring something extra off the court.
In the end, I don't think on-court performance was that close between Barboza and Miyashiro.
I like Barboza and it would be interesting to see what she can show in 3-4 years time (if she sticks with it). The beach may be an interesting route to keep in shape during the summer in between professional seasons.

What was his game and intangibles like and its similarities to Barboza?
