The first big tournament I played in was in Fort Collins, Colorado. The Jose Cuervo Dig or Die Classic. After we were destroyed in the A division, we had the opportunity to watch John play. He and Randy Stoklos really made an impression on me. I was so impressed with what could be.This is sad news.

well that was understandable. Any italian translaters on volleytalk? Copy paste link into search engine, then hit translate. The article is a bit morbid and talks about things that shouldn't be focused on at this time, so I don't want to post it out of respect.

Ever hear of Google Translate? I don't consider the contextual information it provides morbid... but I do consider the language used in it offensive: Google Translate faithfully translates Italian expletives into English expletives.

This article, I believe, was intended to be nothing less than a touching tribute to Jon.

talks about things that shouldn't be focused on at this time That article gives context about what Jon's friends were thinking, feeling and fearing about him... by trying to censor my voice, you are also trying to censor theirs. I think VG described it pretty well.

I think VG described it pretty well. Dude, read my post again. Nowhere did I say YOU couldn't post anything. I just said I didn't want to. I also stated MY opinion. If you disagree, that's fine. I even helped another poster on how to use google translator...so where exactly is the censorship???

It would be a good idea if we all just calm down a little. Emotions run high in the initial aftermath of such events, and people sometimes say things they later regret.

Have you read their earlier articles about him? If they weren't leading the charge to fire him at Cal Poly SLO, they were running side by side with those who were. At that point, that was the story. At this point, the story is a volleyball legend died way too young.

It has been updated to say instead "The Van Nuys Police Department says is [sic] does not suspect foul play."

well that was understandable. Any italian translaters on volleytalk? The translation given by Google is pretty much correct. How saddened was I after hearing about the passing of Jon Stevenson. And even more so after getting to know about his last troubles in life. I know personally the guy who wrote the article, and I also got to meet Jon during the unfortunate season he played in Italy. I had just started playin volleyball as a kid, and from time to time he offered to take care of us during our pratice sessions. I cannot say I've known him very well, but sure I remember he was always helpful and available, always correct, always a strong source of inspiration for us younger players. If now at 42 I still feel the same passion for this beautiful sport and their people, I think it's also because of men like Jon Stevenson, RIP. Dario (from Italy)

RIP Jon, if you knew him when he was young, you knew a sweet natured, intelligent, and shy person...a little different but really good hearted...whatever happened over the years were hard on him, you could see the physical toll, and I always felt some emotional problems were attached, but life ain't always easy, and people are complex and not perfect. Please give him the respect and love he deserves at this difficult time for his friends and family. A complicated and extremely talented man, not easy to pigeon hole him anywhere...
