Knipe is exactly right, however. Lots for this team to be proud of, starting with the fact it was no easy thing to have even qualified. Then they won their pool.
Given the limited pool of talent, the gold in 2008 and the competitiveness here are both remarkable things.
Small consolation at the moment, but the core of this team has really done themselves proud over the last 8 years.

Quarterfinal losses suck. That was a bad matchup for the USA. Sucks big time! Winning pool B was the highlight, but who remembers that?

Well hats off to the men's team. They did much better than I originally thought, but a tough draw gave them Italy. Had Pool A kept it together, we'd likely have played ARG, but alas there always RIO. Today wasn't all Knipes fault, but it's time to replace him. Great career for Priddy, Stanley, Lee, Lambourne, & Suxho. Rooney & Anderson should stay. Everyone else should go. Peace. Holmes and Smith I like (Love). Thornton can stick around too, as a backup hopefully. But otherwise, it's time to clean house.

Don't see him ever making a real impact.

When I saw this team play Argentina a few months ago, I was very iffy. Their serving was pretty questionable, and it looks like it came back to bite them in the ass today. Let's hope some major adjustments will be made for Rio. Good job USA, but Italy had more heart.

Wow that is not a good loss at all. Terrible.
Where does the National team go from here?
Does Knipe stay?
Who replaces Stanley, Suxho, Priddy, Lambourne? Does USA even have players that look to be potential candidates at this point?
Will be curious to see where the team goes from here as it will be drastically different?

This cleaning house theory is interesting. Where are the replacement players?
I'm asking seriously. They may be there and I just don't know who they are. Like haze implies: how do you replace 4 players of that caliber when so few males (elite male athletes) in this country play the sport? You have to get lucky, right?

You start tomorrow building the future. We are okay at the pins, not great, but okay. We need serious help at the setting, libero and opposite position. Shoji for setter? Other Shoji for Libero? Lots of options right now to give opposite a shot. Still have Patak, Clark, Troy... Also have the kid from BYU who looks pretty good... could take Priddy's spot.

Unfortunately, with USA being the oldest team in the Olympics, they will have a huge turnover. But are there any young capable players? I don't know any and i am not sure if the backups on the team can play at a level where this team can make a near future Olympic run in Rio.

My projected lineup for 2013: OH1: Anderson OH2: Rooney OPP: Patak S: Shoji MB1: Holmes MB2: Lee (He's what, 31?) L: Not sure on this one, we will see how Shoji's first pro season goes. But I'd guess we're putting the double Shoji in. So, there's not really that much turnover with the starting lineup, I don't think we'll see that until 2014/2015, so what we're seeing here is really some backups, Patak and Rooney, becoming starters, a few guys who are really new, the Shojis, and the next wave waiting in the wings for a year or two. I don't think it'll be so drastic right away. Even by Rio I think it'll be Anderson and Ciarelli or Sander at outside, Clark or Troy at opposite, the Shojis, and Smith and Holmes in the middle. Not the huge blow up everyone is projecting.

Kawika Shoji is a good young talent but he is only 6-3.
Not sure if that matters or how that relates to setter's on the International level.
