Not an issue. He's very athletic, he could be 6' 1" and I'd still want him setting.

But Stanley and Priddy are the absolute HEART of this team. I think people are seriously underestimating how difficult it is to find players like this. The USA has always had great college players. Great national team players? That's a huge jump.
That's part of what's so remarkable about how many recent college grads succeeded on the women's side, in the last 2-3 years. Really, really rare.

I don't think anyone is saying it will be a breeze to replace them. We've got players coming up though, guys who have succeeded at the pro level, not just college guys.

Succeeded in what way? Played well professionally?
Because that's not the same thing as winning a gold medal or a Grand Prix.
People may not be using those exact words, but it sure does sound like "a breeze" to me. I just can't forget what 1996-2004 was like, with other successful pro players.

Dang, I did not see the match. There is a lot for this group to be proud of, but the whole Olympics I felt we should have gotten the middles more involved, and I struggle with Suxho's decision making- and his location to Stanley....was that a factor in this match?

Stanley is arguably the best opposite in the World. Hard to replace. I agree with Priddy being an important leader. Lambourne I think was one of the best i the world last olympics. Now I'm not so sure and don't think that will be a hard replacement. I think trying to replace Stanley and Priddy will be extremely tough to repalce.

I think your right, but you said that we had good college guys who didn't pan out at the international level, and I was just pointing out that we have guys coming up who have succeeded internationally. Does that mean they'll start winning World Leagues right off the bat? No, but I'm optimistic.

Stanley might have had a brief run as the best opposite in the world in 2008, but he's probably not in the top 5 now. Priddy's leadership will be tough to replace, but that's about it. He's not the same player he was. I don't want to downplay what these guys have done for USA volleyball, or make it seem like we'll just hum merrily along without them, but I think you guys are a little too pessimistic. We've got a lot of young talent starting to come into their own. Will young talent translate to success at the next level? Will they gel as a unit? Only time will tell, and it's certain to be a challenge, but I think we have every reason to be optimistic going forward.

It is a four year cycle. They will get the right guys better in that period of time. I am just worried about the leadership and whether they can get someone to continue the program. Of course, with Beal in charge, and the men's team being his baby, I am sure it will be someone that he has confidence in.

Stanley and Priddy were great in 08 but they showed their age this time around, although with Stanley its hard to say if that didnt have a lot to do with Suxho. I dont follow the national team as much as I would like to in non-Olympics years, other than watching matches in youtube, but has Sean Rooney been given extended time playing alongside Matt Anderson? It seems like Priddy's starting has been taken for granted for a long time so maybe someone a little more knowledgeable can tell me why that is because it seemed to me that one of the biggest US problems was Reid's inability to do much against big blocks, whereas Rooney, again in the limited times I have seen, has done better

I think this team is still top 5 in the world as constructed. I thought Anderson was better than Priddy in this tournament. Here is the roster from the Pan Am tourney that the US won, surely some prospects:
U.S. Men’s Pan American Cup Team No. Name (Position, Height, Hometown, College) 1 - Dylan Davis (MB, 6-9, Corona Del Mar, Calif., UC Santa Barbara) 2 - Matt Rawson (MB, 6-7, Los Angeles, Hawaii) 4 - Carson Clark (Opp, 6-5, Santa Barbara, Calif., UC Irvine) 5 - Garrett Muagututia (OH, 6-5, Oceanside, Calif., UCLA) 6 - Murphy Troy (Opp, 6-8, St. Louis, Mo., USC) 7 - Jordan Dufault (OH, 6-4, Lakewood, Calif., UC Irvine) 9 - Daniel McDonnell (MB, 6-6, Glendale, Ariz., UC Irvine) 12 - Tony Ciarelli (OH, 6-6, Huntington Beach, Calif., USC) 13 - Ryan Ammerman (S, 6-8, Parker, Colo., UC Irvine) 14 - Dustin Watten (L, 6-0, Long Beach, Calif., Long Beach State) 22 - Taylor Sander (OH, 6-4, Huntington Beach, Calif., BYU) 24 - Kawika Shoji (S, 6-3, Honolulu, Stanford)

Looks like we used up all our juice in pool play. That's extremely disappointing

Not a lot of size on the pins on that roster, looks like anderson and Rooney will have to the "men" in the next quad
