Who is this Castillo girl? When did she commit? Fans found out about her yesterday but the twitter status by a sports page was posted a few days ago. She came to visit UH during one of the preseason matches.

Kahakai not receiving a scholarship. She's a walk on. That goes to show you how much you can believe by people posting on the blogs. I'm just repeating what I read by a poster that he/she asked Kahakai personally if she is getting a scholarship and her answer was yes. This post was a few months back when she verbally committed. Maybe you could add to the source information. She's an invited walk on. She plays club ball for Imi Ike and is coached by Robyn and was invited to walk on.

I saw her at the potluck afterwards sitting with Nikki. She was wearing a knee brace then. Word is that she is considered one of the best players out of San Diego area.

I am without any answer as to why, but Luis (or whoever it is in IT that facilitates Volley Shots' tech. board, with control issues) one day boldly decided to erase a portion of my limited post. It was one that was completely innocuous too btw. French Polynesia has got some playas over in Tahiti as well. They win the S. Pacific Games annually and might just have something worth the while. Those from Guam, Samoa, Tonga etc. tend to be a whole lot shorter than those with French bloodline. I've been fortunate to have been to the South Pacific Games a couple years ago, when Apia, Western Samoa hosted the games. But I have to say that from my point of view womens volleyball was very weak. There are athletes with potential that could really use some good coaching. The mens teams play at a very high level. Former Nevada (Wolfpack)standout Salaia Salavea I believed played for American Samoa.

Glad to see the Wahine adding some height with these next two classes. We have Nikki and Tayler this year, next year with Greeley headlining the 2014 class, and 2015 with Castillo...that's very good news for the Wahine and Wahine fans!

Also, like others have mentioned, nice to see Hawai'i adding some height in the next 2 classes.

Didn't someone mention that Granato was more 6'1-6'1.5ish? I know a few inches won't matter much if she's athletic and all, but sometimes when you don't have to exert yourself to reach over the net on multiple blocks per set, height does come into play.

I think height is a good thing but not always necessary. Look at USD with hitters at 5'9" and beating much bigger teams. I think speed and explosive power is just as important. Sometimes it is what taller girls are lacking.

She's an invited walk on. She plays club ball for Imi Ike and is coached by Robyn and was invited to walk on. She just signed a NLI. Not a walk-on. I second that, I just heard about her signing. Since just quickness, athleticism and lack of height not a formula for success at top level D1, how about Carly Kan at 5'9.

Carly Kan at 5'9" is proving that height doesn't always matter for the unbeaten Missouri team. She is a very smart and athletic player.

Four recruits officially signed their NLIs, Greeley, Kahakai, Huff and Maglio. Going way back to Klum gym days I can't recall UH signing three players with this heights 6'2-6'3 out of high school.
