Finally caught Oppenheimer two weeks ago and finished Killers of the Flower Moon last night. I'm always down for Scorsese and I thoroughly enjoyed KOTFM, but Mrs Merv and I had to take it in over three nights and I think that hurt the viewing experience a little. I'm a massive, massive Jason Isbell fan and it was fun and weird to see him play such a big role in the film. Leo and DeNiro are so good as villains you wish they would do it more. I thought it was DeNiro's best work in years and Lily Gladstone is tremendous. Oppenheimer I loved. Maybe Nolan's best film, period. I too loved ‘Oppenheimer’ and was disappointed in ‘A Zone Of Interest’. Look for an “upset” when Giamatti wins the acting Oscar. Not really MY prediction but I’m hearing more and more he will win over Murphy. 4-91.

The second trailer for GodzillaxKong is out:
Seems like Legendary is taking the sillier "monster bash" approach of the Showa era (1960s to 70s) Godzilla films.
While Toho is returning Godzilla to his original serious metaphor for nuclear destruction (contrast the above to the Godzilla Minus One trailer):
Both styles can work for me. Great time to be a Godzilla fan, haha.

I saw Past Lives (2023) this past weekend, a film that I had intended to see well before any buzz had been generated. I liked it but wouldn't generally recommend it. If you know the films of Kore-eda Hirokazu, Majid Majidi, or Céline Sciamma you would probably like it but if you know those directors you don't need any help finding films like Past Lives.

Is there going to be a 3rd part of Dune? Thought I read the director say he is done after the third movie. I haven't seen the second yet so not sure where they ended part 2.

Brooklyn- emotional, history revisited, of how the community of Irish settled in Brooklyn and the sadness of leaving home for a new life.

I presume part 2 finishes the book. Dune gets *very* out there after the second book. Like immortal sandworm God Emperor out there.

Oppenheimer. Great movie. But I didn’t need to see what’s-her-names-boobs on repeat. I get, he was a womanizer. You can convey that without showing boobs.

I got dragged into Argylle. Weird movie. Interesting plot twist that I didn't see coming. Way, WAY too much cat.

The 2nd part will complete the first novel. The 3rd movie likely will cover the second book "Dune Messiah". After that the Dune series get really weird and trippy, with one of Leo's kid turning himself into a sandworm, an invading army of female warriors who uses orgasm to sexually control men (I am not kidding here, that's actually in the later books), it just gets too weird for my taste.

Oppenheimer I loved. Maybe Nolan's best film, period. Agree. I think The Dark Knight Rises and Inception will always be 1 and 1A for me, but I could be talked into Oppenheimer as high as third in my Nolan rankings.

Of the 12 movies he's made, I would say 10 of them are great, and Following and Tenet are at least interesting.

Just watched "Ghosted" starring Chris Evans and Ana de Armas. Cute and funny film. At one point they had the lead casts for Captain America in there with Chris Evans (Cap), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson) and Sebastian Stan (Bucky).
