13 Assassins (2010)13 Assassins is a samurai film about a group of Assassins who band together to kill some doof. Very cinematic and violent. The movie was directed by Takeshi Miike, a prolific Japanese director infamous for the ultra-violence in some of his films. The movie is also a remake of the 1963 original. And it follows the broad model of the "Seven Samurai" by the late acclaimed director Akira Kurosawa (if you like samurai films, I recommend you also watch Kurosawa's "Ran").

I’ve seen lots and lots of Japanese films. If it’s famous, I’ve seen it. I’ve seen Ran at least 4 times and Seven Samurai at least 3 times. I’ve also seen most (if not all) of Kurosawa’s films.

I go for months at a time without seeing a film at a theater, and here I am planning to see my fifth in the last several weeks. My kids home from college really wanted to see some of the holiday releases, and I was happy to oblige and spend some time with them. But I really want to see 1917 on a big screen, so it looks like I'll be going again. I've heard really good things, and I'm intrigued by the "one continuous shot" gimmick.

Have you seen Takeshi's infamous "Ichi the Killer"? It takes a strong stomach to sit through that.

Not directly related to movies per se, but Rick Gervais opening monologue was hilarious at the 2020 Golden Globes.

Still a lot of racial/political undertones but not the subtle jokes he slipped into Get Out. For a comedian, he's a great horror director.

Watched 13 Assassins...love movies with feudal Japan battles. Only question I have is how did the trail guide come back to life? Or did he have a twin?

Midsommar (2019) Creepy good movie. It's an American movie but set in Sweden. It's described as a horror movie but the first 2/3 is just psychological drama and the final 1/3 is horror.
