i'm ok with Shoji agreeing (or not agreeing) to the release either way. (not that my opinion counts) better for all involved to just put this whole episode behind them. not that i think Shoji is dwelling on this a whole lot. this has probably been more wearing on the fans than anyone else (or at least the fans posting on this board about it ).

When was the last time a starter transferred FROM UH? Stephanie Ferrell in 2010? Brittany Hewitt last year. Transferred to volleyball retirement. Michelle Waber would have probably been a starter last year had she stayed on the team instead of transferring to SDSU. But yes, Ferrell otherwise. Waber ... i understood. there were family issues involved. but Ferrell had just come off a trip to the final four with the team. she and kanani would have been the experienced anchors on the outside for hawaii the following year. oh well...

I know, but we're talking about Hawaii, not Minnesota. Focus.

Yes, especially for the most glorious volleyball program in all the land! Isn't Hawaii more like the most glorious volleyball program in all the ocean? And the LA Dodgers are the most popular team in all the ocean!

I think you need to consider how a player(s) leave before granting or not granting them a release. If the players leave on good term both in the classroom and on the court, then maybe its the proper thing to do to grant them a release. If the player left with animosity or insulted the school, coach or teammates on her way out, then you need to think about granting a release.
What if Jane insulted her teammates or told the coach to eff off or something like that? Would you as a coach be the better man and release the kid or you make the kid pay for the action? Its not that easy a decision sometimes. From what I have read, its not academic, neither is it any kind of law breaking so it sounds like something personal between Jane and the team/coaches.
I get the feeling the players would like a chance to play against her and kinda show her a thing or two while the coaches could be thinking in line of whether she need to pay for her action.

Knowing Dave, he is not the type to hold grudges, especially against a player. He is more of a parent, and as much as he hated seeing Jane leave, and I think he wants her to suceed. Evidently to this point he is. I also don't think this is a grudge issue, for many coaches its a principle issue. The letter of intent sadly doesn't cut both ways in many cases. Coach breaks it, he is the bad guy, coach makes player honor it, he is the bad guy? ? I totally agree.
