A huge reason for their drop off: Erin Virtue is no longer the recruiting coordinator/assistant coach.

Slightly critical? You were speculating about her job security. I take that to be more than slightly critical. Programs go through their ups and downs and people come on here and call for various peoples jobs; but then programs either get better or the they get fired, either way, most coaches get the benefit of a doubt, especially if they are very early in their tenure, the chronological marker being recruiting classes. Usually, if you aren't winning by the time your own recruits are juniors then AD's and SWA's do have a problem. Unlike the aforementioned MBA mentality, you sometimes have to get worse before you can get better. To panic after an 0-15 start during just her second year at the job is ridiculous. You couldnt be more wrong...

Any new coach coming in can inherit a wide array of situations, and the one this coach inherited was going to be tough for anyone. Add in the fact that Cincinatti is no Stanford, or even Ohio State, and it's ridiculous to expect a one year turnaround. However, there are criteria that can be used to fire a coach in just two years, including a looming inability to recruit and serious off-the-court issues. These same criteria can be used to hire a coach with just two years experience as well, so I'd guess this coach showed a good ability to recruit, a good ability to coach, and no off-the-court issues in the past. You'd think this should start working to UC's advantage next year. If not, then perhaps she only gets three years.

Because you are exhibiting the same thinking that the MBA degree has foisted upon us as a nation and a culture: - Short term results over long term results
- Disdain for the process
- Win now at all cost
- Impatience with building
- Local optima over global optima
- No appreciation of the uniqueness of the endeavor
Phaedrus...I keep meaning to make this comment after reading your posts, you are much too smart for me. I say this in all sincerity.

I must have missed that lecture in business school. Maybe it happened when I was tutoring engineering students on how to talk to girls.

Totally agree OptimusPrime. I know once Reed and Myanna left a few good recruits took Cincinnati off the table.

were not talking about a successful team taking a drop with a coaching change, this team is 0-15. Plenty of coaches have inherited less than great situations, this isn't good.

Last 2 years Reed was the coach Cincinnati had an RPI of 16 and 20. New coach came in and dropped to 95 and 248. I would say without a doubt a successful team took a drop after coaching change.

I think you missed my point, they didn't take a drop, they took a total plummet.

You can be tough, as long as you’re not toxic. Some coaches don't know the difference.

What in world is going on over there?
Going from: "Taking the reins of a Bearcats program that has won 20 or more matches in 16 of the last 17 seasons and has made four-straight NCAA tournament appearances. The Bearcats won BIG EAST regular-season titles in 2008 and 2010 and earned the program's first BIG EAST championship tournament title in 2011. Since 2003, 11 Bearcats have earned AVCA All-America honors."
To: 12-20 last season to 0-18 currently... wowsers.
I'm not looking for the HC to get fired as I only know what I have read and studied... but this is crazy. Is this a situation where going from 2 years at Houston earning a 38-24 record to getting in over her head?
With the BCS era of Universities and looking at the history of Cincy and their current schedule... you would expect ONE win?... right? It doesn't matter if you start 6 freshmen with a freshman libero, which they aren't... Cincy should be winning some ball games.
Just looking for thoughts or opinions as to "What in the world is going on over there?"

This thread was already brought up and discussed. I don't know if you missed it. Not trying to be a buzzkill just saying.

There was another thread on this but I'll add...only 7 games won in those 18 losses too. I have met the coach before and I like her but I really don't know what's going on there.

SkullBones, PM me if you want my take on the UC situation. Discussion in this public forum invariably results in misinformation and horrendous character attacks.
