Before life in the balance I was rarely in the gym more that 5 hours in a day, way to much overuse injuries. In the old days I ran 3 a days. I have no idea how I did it. You get another hour off the court for some team building/mental training/film. D II gets the 3 preseason scrimmages which are great teaching moments that D I does not get. My spring season was not effected by LITB. Fall Festival is another week which really XXXXX but so let's get new bylaw that puts the week back in at the beginning on FF years. My AD is in favor of it. Success in college is generally about recruiting the best athletes. No argument here. There are many other threads on VT about this and usually include some comment about a bovine with extremely lengthy horns. Years when I have 3 or 4 hitters touching 10' I am a great coach. Years when I have outsides touching 9'5" I really xxxxx. I have had both. My biggest beef with LITB is the structure (as it pertains to preseason). I agree that it's easy enough to put skill work into 5 hours... But you add strength and conditioning, team building, kumbaya, etc into that mix and then ADD the three hour minimum break between sessions and you end up chasing your tail. It's silly that the NCAA had to regulate to keep idiots from beating the piss out of their kids... But you beat the piss out of your kids!!! It's just done out of love so it doesn't count right!!!!

Is it possible to get free on campus housing with this position? No, not legal if it is a volunteer position. The only thing that you can get is food, transportation, and lodging paid while on trips to play. Everything else you have to pay for.

Youngstown State University is looking for an assistant to replace Jasmine Fullove who left to go to IPFW. There was a little confusion when our HR office took down the job opening to make some corrections to the job requirements. It is now back up and YSU is still accepting applications. All applicants must go through the HR office to be considered. The volleyball staff can not accept any resumes or applications. Go to jobs.ysu.edu/postings/317 for more information and to apply. The plan is to start reviewing resumes next week.

4 coaches in 5 yrs is way outside the norm for D2... I like Trisha and have for yrs... I think both assts that were hired were set up to fail (even if one was set to be an interim)... Def agree that the region is brutal... I believe that there were rumblings of them (mosouthern) looking at the GAC - but that wouldn't have helped the region (for now)... I wish the new coach the best... Joplin is a neat place - minus the F5 tornados that frequent the area... I've been on their campus and it's nice enough... I hope for all involved that the admins itchy finger gets some salve for the staff and their athletes! Look at the bright side....with frequent F5 tornados...you get to promote a brand new campus every year!

It's silly that the NCAA had to regulate to keep idiots from beating the piss out of their kids... I think LIB is a joke. As usual, it has very little do with the student-athletes and more to do with cheap Presidents trying to save a buck. Because if it was about the S-A, they would have done the same thing to football, but they didn't. And I am not the delusional "football and volleyball should be on the same level" kinda person. I get it about football, it's just different than Olympic sports. However, when you calculate the down time in relationship to the cost of providing meals, housing in the dorm, allowable team monitoring, etc....the limitations aren't really getting a whole lot of ROI. And besides, I am always a believer in letting the natural forces dictate outcomes. If you beat the piss out of your team, don't manage it well, and end up losing because of it....your fate will be sealed as a coach. You can't legislate "stupid" out of the world.
