I think you are wrong with this statement: "I know that we are not quite up to par to get multiple star/top tier recruits like Penn State ..." We are getting some very, very good recruits. Purdue will probably never get Penn State caliber players.... In fact, Purdue was Arielle Wilson's first choice, but Purdue had already given a scholarship to Kristina Arthurs and didn't have any more available. It was something like if Arielle had called a few hours earlier, she would have been a Boiler. Sometimes, that's the difference between getting a player and not.

I never knew that that was what happened. Thanks for sharing. I can only imagine having the combination of Arthurs and Wilson in the same team.

Arthurs had a good career at Purdue. Wilson shined at Penn State, but some of that was due to playing beside Fawcett, Hodge, Brown, and other 1st Team AA's. Nobody in the Big Ten is feeling bad for Purdue and the recruits arriving in Lafayette. Purdue will be a major player for years to come. And yes, I have to think Russ would like to have a few of them.

Well, they didn't have the scholarships so it would have only been one. Purdue was very happy to have Arthurs on the team.

Jessica Ulrich also played for Penn St after transferring from Purdue. She wasn't a starter at PSU, but got on the court some, so clearly a "Penn St caliber player"

The day started off rocky...but Purdue played volleyball the way they were capable of tonight. I am glad that they shook off the bad taste in their mouth from this morning and relaxed and had fun tonight.

Purdue will be very good this year, they have all the tools. Val Nichol is a very good aggressive setter.

I think this picture says a lot. What fan support. I'm not sure how they tallied the count (students admitted for free) of 7030 but that seems a little low. Mackey Arena holds 14240 and it sure looked and seemed like more, but awesome never the less. /photo/1

Amazing crowd. Great for Volleyball. Looks like some good things happening at Purdue. I agree that there are not too many empty seats in that arena.

I was browsing through YouTube and found this video that Purdue made with their 2014 lineup...I'm sure everyone had fun making it:

Purdue is 4-0 in Big Ten play after defeating Michigan, Michigan State, Rutgers, and Maryland! A real confidence booster before playing IU on Wednesday night.

Purdue was 1 match away from the Final Four last year...considering the talent they have returning and their stellar freshman class, no one should count them out as a Final Four threat this season. I wouldn't consider them the favorite for Big Ten Champions, but I think they are surely in the mix this season with Nichol and Jones back. [br A lot probably depends on how RS Ashley Evans and the 7 incoming freshmen mesh with the returning players after the 12 match preconference schedule. I can envision a scenario where Nichol has multiple hitters to set to. OH, RS, Middle, Middle slide, back row attack, and setter dump can help Purdue be very creative and unpredictable offensively. Purdue will need to win the serve receive match ups and pass to Nichol so she has multiple options. IMHO, the back row is everything to Purdue this coming season. Offensively, by the time October comes around, Purdue's offense and ability to put the ball to the floor will be fun to watch. And if you believe in momentum, look @ Purdue's first 8 conference matches. The 7th match is home against Penn State, and if they can win the 7 other matches and defeat PSU @ home, an 8-0 start to the conference schedule might provide the momentum to get to 16-18 wins in the Big Ten. Of course injuries are a major intangible impossible to forecast. And you might see a freshman(s) adapt to the college game quickly and dominant in ways we can't imagine now. Oh I could imagine Purdue having a tremendous season this year and even better next year based on the optimism in this thread. This could be the start of something really big.
