By reading the article, it appears as if they may do both. Do t forget the role Ashley Evans may play next year. She also is a setter/hitter.

From what I've been hearing and seeing from the team and with the talent coming in next season, I wouldn't be surprised if Evans barely saw playing time. I heard last year that she wasn't getting in much practice outside of normal practice hours and again, wouldn't be surprised if she was passed up by incoming talent. She may have been able to change her schedule around and I could be wrong but I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me at all.

I was mistaken in thinking that Evans was only a setter...it looks like she may also be used as a hitter. That's good for her though. There is so much talent coming in...I am so excited.

Smart of her to focus on what's important.

Watched a good DS from Circle City a couple if weeks ago. Small, but really good. Parents said she would be at Purdue next year, part of a really strong class. How strong is it, too 10?

Carissa Damler is the DS from Brownsburg, IN. Very quick/fearless competitor. I think she will do very well in the Big Ten. To answer your question: 2 POY's from IN and FL coming in,,, both good quality VB states. Danielle will be great @ MB,,, tremendous upside. Christina and Lydia have learned a lot coming in early last January and playing spring ball. IMHO,,, top 5 recruiting class. Will be interesting to see which freshmen(s) will contribute most this coming fall.

Ambrose, Smith, Cuttino, Stahl, and young Cuttino will keep Purdue University in contention for years to come.

This year, there aren't any of the Coach's Caravan events close to Lafayette. Unless the John Purdue Day, is the local event? purdue.edu/jpc I always think of that as a "golfing day" for the good ol' boys. But, JPC is trying to emphasize that it is not just for golfers. So, I may need to give that a try this year. I always love hearing Coach Dave Shondell talk!

I think this is really cool. Volleyball Honored For Academic SuccessBoilermakers receive NCAA Public Recognition Award for ninth-straight season. www.purduesports.com/sports/w-volley/spec-rel/050714aaa.htmlMay 7, 2014 WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - In addition to finding continued success on the court, the Purdue volleyball team received the NCAA Public Recognition Award for posting a multi-year academic progress rate among the top 10 percent of its sport. The Boilermakers are receiving the award for the ninth-straight season. The Purdue volleyball team also claims elite status on the court as one of only five Division I teams to reach the NCAA Sweet 16 each of the last four years. The Boilers ended the 2013 season ranked eighth in the final AVCA Coaches Poll after its second Elite Eight run in the last four seasons and seventh Sweet 16 berth in the last nine seasons. Junior Val Nichol was named AVCA All-America third team, while junior middle blocker KiKi Jones earned honorable mention accolades. In the classroom, redshirt freshman Faye Adelaja garnered Academic All-District V honors, while 10 Boilermakers received Academic All-Big Ten acclaim. The APR, now in its eighth year, measures the eligibility, retention and graduation of student-athletes completing on every Division I sports team. The most-recent APR scores are multi-year rates based on the scores from the 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12 academic years. The full listing of NCAA Public Recognition honorees is here. -> NCAA recognizes Division I academic achievement www.ncaa.org/about/resources/media-center/press-releases/ncaa-recognizes-division-i-academic-achievement... Click here for the list of 146 teams that have earned Public Recognition Awards every year. www.ncaa.org/sites/default/files/Top10squads_everyyear.pdf==================================================== This list of 146 teams is for every sport. The women's volleyball teams in the above list that I found are: Lehigh University Northwestern University Purdue University University of Northern Iowa Western Kentucky University I'm kind of surprised there are not more teams on the list. I always think of the "Academic All-Big Ten" list as the awesome-applesauce list, and this one should just be a given. People get good grades and graduate. Ok, maybe not all football players, but volleyball players? Yes. Is the big deal that you have to be perfect? As in, do you have to get 1000 to be in the top 10% for volleyball?

you are correct on three, but Northwestern and Western Kentucky have produced perfect scores in 5 of the 9 years only.

Boiler-Upper - you are correct on three, but Northwestern and Western Kentucky have produced perfect scores in 5 of the 9 years only. The others - Lehigh, Purdue, and Northern Iowa have been 100% in ALL nine seasons of APR consideration. Ahhh. Actually, that was 2 different questions I asked; but, your data is enlightening! Thanks!

Ah, I see now. All five received the PR award, but only three have been perfect. My apology to Miss Up.
