Didn't you refer to someone as condescending earlier? As usual we will defer to your expertise. Not someone. You.

Hey! This thread is for petty arguments between Gopher fans. Get out of our yard!

With the Senior Aces list coming out this week, it got me wondering where Sam Seliger-Swenson may end up. Chance for top ten? Also, I noticed that Blaine's Taylor Morgan is now listed as an outside hitter on the team roster (which I kind of thought may happen due to her height). She had ACL surgery last fall didn't she? Assuming she recovered well, is she still committed to Minnesota? She may add some athleticism to the outside position. She jumps very well. I'd think in the 5-15 range for SSS! Regardless, she'll be our starter next year if things go according to plan. I've also seen Tay Morgan play some outside and she looks pretty natural there. Plus if she is going to switch to Northern Lights this spring, she'll get even more experience after this switch to get adjusted to playing the position full time. Passing and serve receive needs work though, otherwise she could be a 3-rotation OH in college. Btw, is she our #86 senior ace, or is that SB?? Thanks.

I've seen SSS recently. I'm not sure she's going to come in and start from day one. On the other hand, Shau needs to step up her game.

I don't think SSS makes top ten. I'd love to hear Sylvester the Cat pronounce that name. I'd love to hear that, too! Talk about SSS went the way of talk about other players heralded at 14 or 15 who held their own on 16s, 17s, or 18s club teams. SSS heads to Minnesota where McCutcheon has added another class of 2014 setter Carly Rasmussen (5' 7") to go with sophomore setters Erica Handley and Katie Schau.

I have only watched her (Swenson) play once, and it was on a grainy YouTube video. Maybe it was just confirmation bias, but she looked pretty smooth (high school match, granted). What about her were you specifically impressed or not impressed by?

She does get a lot of accolades in the club season and has played at a high club level for several years. However her high school team has underachieved the last few years. I have to wonder how she'll react to not being the coaches daughter for once. Anyway, there's no doubt that she's an elite high school setter, but so was Shau and Shau will be a junior with a full year of starting under her belt. I'm just hesitant to say SSS will start from day one. That being said, in my opinion, Shau is only slightly better right now.

Anyways having watched enough of both, I'd say Sam is much better at locating the ball than Schau. She's also 6'0 while Schau is 5'8. Huge difference blocking. She's also more of a team leader, and she has more experience with the Tapps, Wilhite, Goehner, Lohman than Schau does (even after this season). What Schau has on SSS is 2 years experience playing the college game, and definitely more quickness and probably athleticism. I still think SSS committed with the expectation of winning the setter job from day one our setter from day 1 (and she's easily good enough), so I'll stick to that thinking, but I can see a scenerio in which Schau is our setter next year.

Anyways having watched enough of both, I'd say Sam is much better at locating the ball than Schau. I would not say she is "much" better at locating. Maybe on a perfect pass, SSS is slightly more consistent than Shau. If she has to move, I'd go with Shau. I've seen SSS play around 12-15 high school matches the last few years, and may 6-8 club matches. That's what I'm basing my opinion on. She's also 6'0 while Schau is 5'8. Huge difference blocking. I need a recount on that 6'. I'd say 5'11" max and not an exceptional vertical. She's also more of a team leader, and she has more experience with the Tapps, Wilhite, Goehner, Lohman than Schau does (even after this season). I'm not sure she's a better leader, I'm not on the team. Shau will have two full collegiate seasons setting and playing with the Tapps, Wilhite, and Santana. The whole argument is not really that important. It's not up to players to decide, it's up to Hugh and who he is comfortable with letting run the offense. What Schau has on SSS is 2 years experience playing the college game, and definitely more quickness and probably athleticism. True I still think SSS committed with the expectation of winning the setter job from day one our setter from day 1 That would be my guess as well.

Ex-gophers looking sweet! Associate Head Coach Hinterstocker's Marquette topped Florida in 5 yesterday. Karlie and Karyn are enjoying being on an undefeated #6 Noles team; Hauer helped FSU take 2 from #21 Texas A&M hitting .500 in the two matches with 15k 1e 28att 6bl. She is sporting a shorter haircut and a Haggerty style headband (there are no ribbons in this girls hair), and is playing some left, has several starts and sees most time at opp in the 6-2, and is starting to look relaxed. Kalysta is playing ds and leads Miami with 109 digs and 16 aces. Lindsey is playing close to home for Long beach State and contributing a lot. Not sure about the others??

Not a former Gopher, but freshman Kylee Zumach is easily Kansas State's best player, and she had 14 kills while hitting over .400 in a win over Michigan on Saturday. Damn I wish Minnesota offered her! I believe she'd be an upgrade over Daly this season if she were here. Her numbers are very impressive! She's the main reason the Wildcats will be ranked soon.

I wish MN could have kept Taylr McNeil. She is having a very good start at South Carolina. But if Taylr would've stayed, that would've meant Wilhite staying with Wisconsin and not becoming a Gopher. She looks like she'll be one of the more deadly OHs in the B1G this season, and it's reasonable to say she's been our best player thus far. *Fun Fact: Sarah Wilhite is the only underclassman to be in the Top 5 for K/S in the B1G right now. (3.86 kills per set)

It was Capezio not getting in that led to Wilhite coming here.
Not sure McNeil is better than what they have, although the depth would have been nice.
