I saw that Kate Palladino has been working out with the team...does anyone know if she's going to be joining the team/walking on? With Cat McCoy coming in, don't see why we'd be bringing in another libero
Also saw that she went to Texas A&M last year before transferring this summer, anyone know if she was involved with the volleyball program there?

Having players fight for spots is healthy. Top programs will always have transfers showing up to challenge for positions and a shot at a NC. That's the way is goes.

Kate didn't play at all nor was on the roster last year at TAMU. Sierra Patrick played a lot as a starter playing both right side and outside with very little back row play

I think she has a better upside in VBall than track!!

With Sierra's pedigree, I see here making a run for the Olympics. It's kinda odd that Sierra decides to transfer to Texas for track when A&M just recently won the National Championship in Women's Outdoor T&F. She did, however, red-shirt this track season. If she does end up coming to Texas, I hope that she continues playing volleyball because she does have better upside in this sport IMO. I can see her red-shirting for volleyball this season (2014) and then having 2 full years (2015 and 2016) to do T&F and volleyball. But for that to happen, a volleyball scholarship would need to open in the fall because as of now, the 12 scholarships for the 2015 season are going to: Tiffany, Molly, Amy, Sara, Nicole, Pilar, Chiaka, Chloe, Mirta, Yaasmeen, Micaya, and Morgan. But I suppose this point is all moot if someone transfers or if her family decides to pay in-state tuition for that semester. In any case, I'm really excited for the 2014 season! I expect to see lots of line-up changes in the beginning of the season with the 6-2, and then seeing a more solid 5-1 line-up during conference play. I think the MBs and Opp will be this team's strength. I just want to see: - Better team ball control in the transition game to run more in-system plays - Improved passing and floor defense from Eckerman and whoever plays the L2 (Pilar or Tiffany) and from any DS subbed in the back row - there not be a drop-off in the Libero position (Brooks or McCoy) - a setter (Chloe or Nicole) who has good location and can connect well with the hitters to vary the offense in a 5-1 or if fully healed, Nicole Dalton to play the Ashley Engle role in a modified 6-2 (set in the back row, hit & pass in the front row)

In my opinion, Texas' best line-up would be:
S: Collins OPP: Bell OH: Eckerman, Pilar MB: Ogbogu, McCage L: McCoy
I'd like to see Pilar play a role similar to the one Del Core played this year for Dinamo Kazan (i.e. hit on the right for two rotations and allow Bell to hit on the left). I also hope they start running the slide properly. McCage can hit it really well, but they didn't give her the opportunity to do so last season. And although I don't think it'll happen, I'd REALLY like to see Eckerman and Bell run some bics this season. God knows they have the athleticism.
Jerritt, I hope you're reading this!

The Texas Women were 2nd to A&M and it was close and also the women did very well in specific events. Plus she's back home with old friends and family.

In my opinion, Texas' best line-up would be: S: Collins OPP: Bell OH: Eckerman, Pilar MB: Ogbogu, McCage L: McCoy I like this line-up and your idea of running the bic with Eck and Bell. Unfortunately, I just don't see Jerritt putting Pilar on the right pin, especially while already having a small blocker up front (Collins) for 3 rotations. He rarely put Pilar in matches last year even when it was painfully obvious that someone with good ball control was needed to help with the struggling 2-person receive formation . Instead, he'd rather take his chances scoring with a bigger block on the right pin than having good passing to run in-system plays, which doesn't make any sense to me. And unless Pilar's vertical/blocking improves, I foresee Baker as the 2nd OH and I just hope that her passing/ball control is more consistent than it was in the spring. As for setter, I think Jerritt will give Chloe and Nicole equal amount of playing time until one separates herself from the other. All I want is the one who can consistently run and vary the offense, who connects well with all the hitters, and who can best handle errant passes to be in the starting line-up.

I was responding to a quote within another quote that didn't show up in my post... the one that said: Kate didn't play at all nor was on the roster last year at TAMU. Sierra Patrick played a lot as a starter playing both right side and outside with very little back row play Unfortunately, Sierra Patrick is solely devoting her time to track at UT. I was trying to imply that it was odd that she is just "solely devoting her time to track at UT" when A&M won it all this year. I think, in addition to track, she also wants to play volleyball on a team that has a good chance to make it to the Final Four each year, while having the benefit of playing with old friends and being closer to family.
