Oh yea - the new home uniform sucks. Black stripes should be burnt orange.
I was wondering if our school colors were black and white. The only burnt orange on the home uniform is the back of the collar, the small TEXAS on the back, and the miniscule UT and Big 12 logos. Like the logo in your avatar...?

I was at the match. Quick thoughts after 1 scrimmage.
McCoy is the libero - hands down. Great instincts and looked so comfortable on the court.
Pilar Victoria was all around outstanding.
Amy Neal - damn shame she isn't a tall player - such a smart player. Hope she has been preparing as a DS.
Baker and Mirta Baselovic were disappointing to be very, very nice. Both are very slow. Baker looked miserable out there. Felt sorry for Collins when she was setting front row and Baker and Baselovic were her hitters. Don't think it was a coincidence she was setting back row to Victoria over and over again.
Dalton needs to be setting front row because of her block. A bit inconsistent but her defense was good. But her serving continues to be a problem. Her form is not good.
Collins was inconsistent - very good at times and not so good other times. Should not play on the front row. Her serving was excellent and defense was good.
Prieto Cerame has a very good swing. Blocking wasn't impressive. She's a big girl!
Molly and Chiaka - didn't notice them much - so they are good to go.
Eckerman and Bell should have big years.
Hattis was Hattis. Good blocker, but not a good hitter.
Brooks and Neal will battle it out for DS.
Palladino the walk-on sure is tiny. But she is well trained but will not see the court much, if at all.
Don't know about this fast offense. Seemed to effect Dalton's setting. By the 3rd set, Eckerman was calling for high sets. Better give her what she wants. Personally, I think it's going to be inconsistent in a 6-2 because the 2 setters are very different.
You truly have no idea what you're talking about. Isn't there a movie on Lifetime for you, chiso & pelcj11 to gab about?

Man, watching the reply now...when Dalton gets that perfect pass she generally gets one blocker setups (granted it's a scrimmage) . Surprisingly deceptive setter, great IQ. Wasn't she touted for her hitting as well? Or was she recruited solely for setting?

Did Prieto play on the left or right? What about Pilar?

Pilar looked really good. Paulina was very inconsistent. I left the scrimmage with no clear idea who's going to start.
Cat McCoy had a great showing. She should start over Brooks.
I believe Mirta will redshirt.

After watching the replay, I am even more excited for the season to start.
Line-ups were in a constant flux during the entire match so it seemed like there was no continuity or flow, but many players had moments during the match that showed improvements in their overall game.
Most noticeable to me are players seeing the court better and scoring more points with finesse. Don't get me wrong, the girls are still banging away, but they are also mixing up their shot selections.
I saw definite improvements in serve-receive passing since the spring matches. The addition of McCoy in the line-up stabilizes the back row , but I also saw better ball control and floor defense from Eckerman, Baker, and Victoria.
For me, the returning players that stood out the most were Chiaka, Molly, and Pilar. Chiaka's slide attack looked much improved and Molly was hitting quick sets with more velocity when she played MB and looked really good hitting with a traditional approach from the right pin as an Opposite. Both demonstrated strong blocking skills. Pilar's all-around game was the most consistent from the OHs and I think her skills are needed the most to run the 6-2 effectively.
Eckerman and Bell look like they are going to have a big year. Bell, now playing on the right pin, will be getting a lot more touches on the ball and will still be able to put up a solid block on the opponent's best OH.
Like others have stated, McCoy will be the starting libero. She just keeps so many balls in play.
Each setter brings something different to the table. Chloe still connects better with the middles than Nicole, but Nicole seems to set a better ball to the pins (although I think she needs to speed up her back sets). I was glad to see Nicole blocking in the front row and running full-out...she looks completely healed from her surgeries. Chloe adds better serving, but Nicole puts up a solid block and is very deceptive when attacking on 2.
The 6-2 will allow many players to see time on the court, but I'm more interested in Elliot selecting one setter (preferably Dalton b/c of her skills and leadership qualities) in a 5-1 in order for her to develop her timing with all the starting hitters, especially the MBs.
Based on what I saw from the scrimmage, my 5-1 would be:
S- Nicole OH1- Haley OH2- Pilar MB1- Molly MB2- Chiaka Opp- Khat Libero- McCoy DS- Brooks or Neal

Did Prieto play on the left or right? What about Pilar? Prieto mainly played right with a ds in the backrow for her. In one rotation, she would hit outside. In the last set, she played outside I think and passed. Pilar played outside the full match.

Did Prieto play on the left or right? What about Pilar? Paulina played on both pins. In the beginning of the match, the announcers said she was a little injured...that's why she didn't get that much playing time. She did play and pass all 6 rotations in the 5th set and did ok. Her transition defense in the back row needs a lot of work. Tiffany also played on both pins. I thought she passed pretty well throughout the match (compared to the spring matches). But she definitely looks more comfortable hitting on the left. Pilar was strictly on the left side, passed all the way around, and played middle back demonstrating good floor defense and a viable back row attack option. She gives up some blocking on the left pin, but her all-around game was the best of the OHs.

I believe Mirta will redshirt. I think it would benefit her to do so. There's a definite log-jam at MB.

Did Prieto play on the left or right? What about Pilar? Tiffany ... definitely looks more comfortable hitting on the left. If the box score is correct, she hit -.400 on the left. Good thing the decision is not to let her play tight at OPP.

Tiffany ... definitely looks more comfortable hitting on the left. If the box score is correct, she hit -.400 on the left. Good thing the decision is not to let her play tight at OPP. During her interview Thursday night on the LHN, Baker said she still feels pain in her knee when she lands on 1 leg and is working on consistently landing correctly when she hits. Don't know what was going on yesterday, but she looked slow and tentative a lot of the time.

I didn't say Tiffany was offensively successful on the left, just that she is more comfortable hitting on that side compared to the right pin (when other posters were suggesting she should be playing at OPP). Tiffany needs to learn to hit with more power and velocity or be able to tool the block better with the hitting mechanics she's using because offensively, she is significantly behind Eck, Pilar, Paulina, and Amy.

Don't know what was going on yesterday, but she looked slow and tentative a lot of the time. That makes a lot of sense now...Baker doesn't look like she's putting any heat on the balls because she's had to change her hitting/landing mechanics. Chiaka is another player who lands on one leg a lot because she reaches for the ball at her highest contact point. She is another player that needs to learn to land more with both feet.
