I agree. If Disa is setting the Alumni team in this match, it wil be interesting to watch...

How fast can the Illini go from 16 alumni playing to "no alumni match"? I was looking forward to see the old-timers in action.

I acually called lines at a Stanford mens alumni match a few years ago (voluneeers needed). Amazed at (a) how good some of the really old dudes were and (b) how some alumni were just a little bit off; you could see the talent was there, but probably not time to practice.

Also, the thing about alumni matches is that you can sometimes run into the problem that my high school basketball team had. If your program was down for a while, having the alumni from that period play your team isn't really going to help that much, because your team should expect to handle them easily. I don't think that is the case for Illinois at this point, but it does impact how helpful and alumni match can be in preparing your team.

Does the new faster offense explain Hambly's dissatisfaction with the scrimmage?

Thanks. The tempo was never specifically mentioned in the article.

Does the new faster offense explain Hambly's dissatisfaction with the scrimmage? Probably not at all. Passing and serving were pretty poor. Donnelly is going to be a fantastic libero, though.
