Hambly's comments about the play of Jocelyn Birks reminds me of something he said at one point during the national runner-up year (2011) when Birks was redshirting behind OH's Colleen Ward and Michelle Bartsch. I cannot remember the exact circumstances of the comment Hambly made, but I was surprised to hear him say something to the effect that the best OH at that particular point in the season at practice was not Ward (first team All-American) or Bartsch (third team All-American), but Jocelyn Birks...foreshadowing of things to come for Joc.

So...for Saturday's match versus Nebraska, I really hope that the Illini can do a little better. In the whole time that Nebraska has been a part of the B1G, Illinois has won a total of 1 set against them. Hopefully that will change Saturday.

Lol, notpriddy's the worst. Happy someone else called him out this time for being awful and petty. Cheers. Not that I'm a particularly big fan of notpriddy, but can you take your angst out over private message or something? We get it. You don't like notpriddy, feeling's mutual, yadda yadda. I'd rather read about Illinois volleyball that see the fact that you don't like someone regurgitated over and over again. Cheers. I hear you, but it's a job someone has to do, put him in his place. I know I'm the hero the Illinois thread deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So you can hunt me. Because I can take it. Because I'm not your hero. I'm your silent guardian, watchful protector. As for notpriddy, I think Sting said it best.

At least Birks picked the right night to go cold. They will need her vs. Nebraska on Saturday. Big night for Criswell.

Yikes! An emotional, somewhat unexpected win at Penn State, getting ready for a big match at Nebraska, and a four hour bus ride in the middle of the week to Iowa, a team that hadn’t won a set in B1G play. That’s a pretty good recipe for disaster. All the mistakes in the first four sets showed a lack of mental toughness and the expectation that a team that was 0-3 in 5 set matches this year was going to fold. Getting down 8-5 in the 5th set caused me to fold in front of the tv. I don’t know if closing for the win was mental toughness on the part of the Illini or a lack of confidence on the part of Iowa. Hopefully the Illini learned some lessons. I'm glad I don't earn my living managing the mental state of 20 year olds.

It's awesome to see that even after last night's unnecessarily close match, Katie Stadick leads the B1G in blocks, and Jocelynn Birks leads the conference in kills and points!
Now onto the team that Illinois has the worst record with in the B1G... Nebraska

Based on the way Illinois has played their last two matches, what is everyone's prediction for the game on Saturday vs. the Huskers? If the Illini play the way that they did at PSU, I'd say they win it in 4 or 5, or if they play like last night, I'd say that they'll lose it in 3 or 4.

Birks 20K, 12E, +8 McMahon 14K, 12E, +2 Stadick 7K, 5E, +2 They need better productivity from these players on Saturday. McMahon was basically a wash. Would like more outcome from a senior vs. Iowa.
Dorn 8K, 1E, +7 Why didn't she start? Criswell 16K, 5E, +11 Needs to do this day in and day out in the B1G.
If they play with the numbers from Iowa, they lose in 3. With the numbers from PSU, they win in 4.

I don't know that Id say it was a lack of mental "toughness" I would say it was probably a matter of not taking them seriously enough. Which might have been set by the coaching staff who switch the starting middle and outside to start the game.
I noticed "fishbone" you don't post much when the numbers are good.
Birks still hit.224 with 20 kills and 14 digs -that's a good game. Considering shes in the front with McMahon who is routinely gets the preferential sets. Criswell was on fire, she is hot and cold but she came though when we needed her .375 with 17 kills. Stadick was a steady force and has been. Have no complaints about Donnelly,Conard or Davis either. They played mid week after a HUGE win. It wasn't pretty but they won.
Iowa also played well.
