It'll be a rough year for the wahine next season, but looking forward to seeing the new blood grow and mesh with the team.

I think players like Greeley, Maglio, and Higgins will benefit from a year of experience. I have a very good feeling about this team in the next couple years. I think Nikki Taylor will have a breakout year!

The Wahine will have two strong and experienced middles, a stud outside, a smart setter who will work the middles, and a much better team chemistry!! Competition will also be weaker next year so I think the Wahine might even do better. Their offense will be more balanced and will make it harder for the opponents to assume where the set is going (ie, Set Em, set Em, and then Set Em) I am frankly excited about finally watching an unpredictable offense...

With the current players and probable incoming, the status of scholarship as I see it is for 2015: count 12, Long, Higgins, Taylor, Vorster, Olevao, Passi, Greeley, Maglio, Huff, Kahakai, Granato and Castillo.

Every season it is typical of Hawaii to have atleast one (sometimes two) scholies that I question having one. Anyways looking forward in seeing the development of Taylor, Higgins and newcomers Greeley and Maglio...hope Adolpho and Vorster can finally have a breakout year too

Greeley is a star and will probably start in 2014. Maglio has work to do, but she has a lot of potential and unless the wahine get a star transfer or recruit in 2015, she will be the starting middle

As much as I loved seeing Medoza play last season, I think she would have a difficult time being the Libero. We all saw how Maeda struggled as the Libero but shined as the primary DS. I hope that whomever Shoji puts at Libero will be able to pass well consistently (that being Mendoza, Kahakai, or anyone else).

Mendoza is a much better passer, and she covers the court good. Maeda, wasn't a great passer, she wasn't even a decent passer, on the good side..she does get after the ball. Of all returning players this upcoming season, Mendoza is Hawaii's best passer! I think we will see more of Nikki Taylor playing all six rotations, Kalei Greeley is said to be a complete player. I am anxious to see Tayler Higgins run the offense full time. Does Passi play all six rotations? Tai Olevao, is awful in the backcourt, and it's a not secret...everybody knows that by now.

I am also really excited to see Maglio develop because she may end up being thrushed in the spotlight early as our current middles go streaks with out consistency.

Not confirmed, but if you have been keeping up with Cindy's blog, she is pretty much convinced that if Mitchem receives her associates and with Cindy's contact with Tom Pestolesi it is pretty certained that she will be heading for UH. A verbal commitment by Mitchem may be done earlier and then for sure the early signing period is this November for Fall 2015.

Great that you're a Mendoza fan, I like her too. But no need to put Maeda down. Not a decent passer, really? She saved that 2011 season from going completely bonkers when Shoji just wouldn't quit with Blake at libero. And I took the OP's post as saying that Mendoza and Maeda are similar in court demeanor/personality, ie not the rah-rah noisy/aggressive type like a Hedder Ilustre or Ali Longo. And I don't think it matters all that much that a libero has to have a strong personality and needs to direct back row traffic and all that. Melissa Villaroman was an underrated libero, great at her job, won the position over the more "energetic" Ilustre, but I don't remember her directing Willoughby or Kahumoku or any of her teammates in the back row.
