Anyone think she is a legit contender for the OH2 or RS spot? Wisconsin keeps getting deeper and deeper

It will be Kriskova on the outside along with Chapman and Fricano on the right. Offensive options will be aplenty.

Two very possible lineups:
MH Thompson MH Nelson OH Chapman OH Kriskova / Morales DS RS Thomas S Carlini L Morey
MH Thompson MH Nelson OH Chapman OH Morales RS Fricano / Thomas DS S Carlini L Morey

And Bates might have the best passing/defense of anyone besides Morey. I would think several starters from last season will need to fight like hell to play in the fall.

It will take a lot of selfless attitudes, trust, and recognition that it's about the best group of six, not the six best individuals.

I don't think Sheffield is expecting her to put up Hooker-like numbers. She did a lot of good things for them last season. I can't see her not being on the floor.

She did a lot of good things for them last season. I can't see her not being on the floor. She had less kills and was less efficient than Morales. She was great defensively, and made the offense much more effective out-of-system, but they need some more production out of that spot. Chapman and Thompson can't do it alone. No one is asking her to be Hooker, but she's gotta do something. I think she'll end up DS-ing.

She doesn't need to be the team's go-to hitter for Wisconsin to be successful. She needs to play defense, block well, serve well, hit out-of-system balls, and provide leadership. Just because her offensive numbers are underwhelming doesn't mean she's not "doing anything." If that was the case, Fricano would have beat her out last season. And besides, this was her first season as a hitter. She has room for growth.

And just because Fricano wasn't ready to start last season doesn't mean that she won't be ready in the fall. They need more production out of that spot. And I didn't say she wasn't doing anything. I said that she needs to do something more offensively. She does. If they want to do better than 12-8 in conference, they need pin attackers that can score. Also, Thomas was very rarely an outlet for out-of-system balls. 85% of the time, those swings were taken by Chapman and Morales. Thomas can serve, play defense, and provide leadership as a DS.

Morales will be a 3 rotation DS at the minimum. They will continue to play with the lineup throughout the preseason and non conference tournament but don't say Morales is done in the front row. Her and Thomas are just as effective in different ways. Just because Bates is a better player doesn't mean she will adjust to the college game that quick or have the same chemistry.

Let us not forget that NO ONE had Morales in the lineup at this time last year, some people even put Carolin Workman in front of Deme as a DS and it took her until the third preseason tournament before she was even a full rotation Outside. She is a fighter to say the least.
