RainbowBadger, thanks for your correction. I was at both games but I get excited about Halloween and it must be affecting my memory. Even if I was wrong, I still remember all the costumes and excitement that Halloween evening. There is something special about Halloween in Madison. That 2006 match was a great match. One of my all-time faves. I still remember the Miller Park Sausage Race at intermission, and Amy Bladow's roommate dressed as Amy Bladow.

Halloween 1997 was pretty special. Beat Penn State in 4 and the last set was not close...one long party. Shared the title that year. But the atmosphere was crazy. There were a couple Franciscan Friars in the front row going crazy all match, which was somehow inspiring. And I was followed by a walking milk carton in the dark on the RR tracks to the Field House. Was thinking about how to fight it off if it tried to mug me. Now I bring straws with me everywhere.

Of the ones I've seen in person, Halloween 2006 match and the regional final 2013 were my favorite matches of all time. I missed some good ones though, like PSU 2011 and the Michigan State match last year. I believe the students stormed the court for the 2006 match. I kind of thought they would yesterday, but there was some expectations they would beat Nebraska so it wasn't dramatic.
I believe Rainbow once noted that was the first Wisconsin match ever seen by Rainbow, correct? What an introduction!
I've got a butt-ton of "least favorites", starting with PSU 3-2 over WI in 2007 and Minnesota 3-2 over WI in 2008 or 2009.
I should start the Purdue match thread, huh? We're talking about it already.

Just visiting, Badgerfans. Forgive me if this has been asked and answered somewhere in the last 56 pages, but any surmises on why Courtney Thomas has become so ridiculously effective this year? With a prepvb ranking of 16, she presumably always had lots of talent. But I mean, last year her hitting percentage was .165 and this year it's close to .350. Night and day.

It actually hasnt been asked. I think it was getting accustomed to being a hitter in the Big Ten, and getting connections with Carlini. Kind of like being a freshman again. She is rtaking a lot smarter shots as well. We will miss her terribly in 2015

She was primarily a setter then had to transition to RS? I don't think that was easy and took some time to get up to speed at this level. Her and carlini have a really good relationship that allows that to happen.

Her and carlini have a really good relationship that allows that to happen. She was a setter-hitter in a 6-2 in club and her freshman year, then ran a 5-1 as a soph. I think she was originally going to be an OH last year, but Jules got injured in the preseason and Court moved to Opp. And last spring she decided to OWN IT. She stepped up her hitting and shot selection and making tremendous strides in digging. We wouldn't be where we are without her.

That's the day of the Michigan match. We don't have a home match before that, and the match after it is away (@ Iowa). Probably won't have a match with the new signees in attendance this year like in years past. I'm confused. Couldn't they come that night? Or is it because the letter wouldn't be "received" yet?

They could come whenever. The NLIs are usually faxed, so it's NBD. I'm suggesting it's a long way from Missouri and Georgia for Madison Duello and Amber MacDonald to come on a school night.

I think I've seen Williams a few times so I forget she's in Indiana. Fort Wayne? (which is at least 5.5 hours) Maybe Brook Morgan...

Brooke Morgan is in Dike, IA, 3 hrs away. The only ones we might see are Saunders and Juley, who are in the Chicago suburbs. Maybe Morgan. But I doubt we see Williams, Duello, or MacDonald.

I think in the past couple weeks Julia Saunders, Madison Duello and Brooke Morgan have attended. There have been some really tall high schoolers showing up and sitting behind the bench. One of them was in a boot my best guess it was Madison, but I could be wrong as I can't find anything on the net to confirm it.

One thing the coach Sheffield talked about is expanding the range of shots that players try. He's stressed this both with Ellen Chapman and Courtney Thomas in particular. I think Courtney's jump in hitting efficiency is because she put hard work into developing a better eye for the blockers and more shots to cope with them.

They've all had their official visits recently. Williams and Duello were here the same night.
