Richkern.com has recently listed Chenelle Walker (6'1" MB/RS from Ft.Myers, Fl.) as becoming a 2014 recruit of Illinois State U. She had previously signed an NLI with the Iowa Hawkeyes. Does anyone know if Walker made the decision to leave Iowa for ISU on her own, or was she encouraged to leave by new Iowa coach Shymansky. Former UI coach Dingman had this to say about Walker:
"Walker hails from Riverdale High School in Fort Myers, Fla., where she was a four-year volleyball letter winner, three-time all-area selection, and a two-time all-conference honoree. The middle blocker/right side hitter led Riverdale to four straight conference championships and led the team in kills and blocks in 2011-13. She also lettered in track and field and basketball.
Walker helped the Florida International High Performance team to fourth place and ninth place finishes at the High Performance Championships in 2012 and 2011, respectively. In addition, she guided the USA South Volleyball Club team to a 2012 Tri-County Invite championship and Junior Olympic Qualifier in 2012 and 2013. Walker was also a National A2 Volleyball team invitee.
Walker has received a long list of academic awards and was most recently named the Wendy's High School Heisman State winner, which honors students that excel in academics, athletics, and leadership. She is involved in the Florida High School Athletic Association Student Advisory Committee, math team, Interact club, Florida Christian Athlete Association, chorus ensemble, National Spanish Honor Society, National Honor Society, art club, Riverdale docent, drama club, Infused Christian youth group, Alzheimer's art therapy, Riverhall Elementary mentoring program, hunger initiative program, girls youth basketball, and ministry youth group.
"Chenelle Walker is an explosive, strong, athletic player," Dingman said. "However, she is much more than just a great athlete. She brings academic credentials to the University of Iowa that are just as impressive as all the athletic accolades she has garnered. We are thrilled to have a student-athlete with her level of commitment to excellence.""

Do coaches have to honor signed NLI's from a previous coach? I know players can get a waiver if the coach changes.

A new coach cannot revoke the scholarship offer. He could, I suppose, have a conversation with the incoming player about how he invisions the player fitting into the team, which might be a very different vision than the former coach had. That might change a recruit's mind, I suppose, and make her ask for a release. I have only been paying attention to this for the past two years or so, but I have not seen it happen where a recruit asks for a release from her NLI after a coaching change and is denied one. At least this way Bond has an extra scholarship for that Green Bay transfer he's bringing in.

Maybe was posted in error to Illinois State? I saw it, too, so know that was out there yesterday. I'm sure this is accurate about Houston because Jason Allen has recently been named Asst Coach there (leaving Marquette). I'm sure he was heavily involved in bringing Walker to Iowa when he served as Recruiting Coordinator there under Dingman.

Quite correct, you are. I was mostly referring to volleyball players. I believe Ms. Romero plays basketball.

Regardless of what happened, it's definitely better that Walker is not going to Iowa for them and her. She's just not at that level.

Bond Shymansky tweet from yesterday: "Welcome another Hawkeye! This Iowa native realized that she should stay in state and live the dream of being a Hawk." Nothing on Richkern...hmmm. Regardless of who this is, glad to see that an in-state player is amongst recruits he is successfully landing.

How would there be prospects committing right now if this is the case?

Danielle Cable, Iowa native is new Hawkeye. Previously committed to Ohio U. Since coaching change there opened the door for switch to Iowa.

I also believe that no personal visits are permitted, but phone contact and other electronic contact is permissible.

Coaches can't go out and evaluate or contact players. Players can contact, visit etc...

Looks like Iowa has some much better depth in the middle and on the right for this upcoming season but definitely needed depth and size on the left. Looks like she may be able to contribute right away there.

Bond Shymansky tweet from earlier tonight:
"Can you believe it?! Another Iowa kid can believe it, bc she just committed to be a Hawkeye!"
Will be interesting to see who this one is.
