Coach Shymansky is wasting no time corralling new players. RichKern.com reports that two new 2014 additions, Mikaela Gunderson (Wisconsin Green-Bay transfer) and Taylin Alm committed (signed?) with the Hawkeyes 3/25 as well as 2015 recruit, Reagan Davey. No one has ever said that Shymansky cannot recruit.

In the conference he is in it will take 4-5 years before you see a big change. If he can do it. So hopefully everyone gives it time.

Depends on how you define "big change." To me, a big change will be Iowa is competitive. I think that happens this year.

I think you will see a huge change, now I don't know if that transfers into wins, but I think you will see an immediate change in Iowa Volleyball.

This is REALLY good timing for a new coach at a bottom dwelling team in the B1G. Sweep Indiana like they did in 2012, and the "uncompetitive" Iowa is up 5-6 wins in conference without actually becoming more competitive. 5-6 wins with "a program on the rise" is a lot more attractive for recruiting/transfer than "2 wins for a total rebuild." I could see that expediting the rebuild timeline.

A major part of the change will come from Bond being able to get the players to believe and invest in a vision of Iowa volleyball. He has done it before. Belief and vision goes so far, the rest is having the players and the gameplan to win at a high level, THAT is the great unknown.

Recruiting of committed athletes has become normal in sports like football, and unfortunately, it seems to be happening more and more in volleyball. I think this is a terrible practice that will ultimately lead to greater stress on athletes and coaches.

As the salaries go up, volleyball will become more like football/basketball than what volleyball was ten years ago. Its pretty cutthroat out there.

As the top recruits continue to end up at 1 of 6 schools ... coaches are doing what they have to do. I didn't like it when it was just Nebraska pushing the envelope. I don't like it any more now that it's many schools, including the one I cheer for. But I understood why then and I understand why now.
