When you talk to college coaches they may not agree because they are looking at potential. Rosenmeier is 4 inches taller and I think the work he did with the national team this year will prove out. I once had a national team coach tell me I can teach a kid allot of things but I can't teach him to be 6-5.

I have heard that and similar quotes to the effect that " You can't teach height!" During my playing days with the US Navy in the late 80s to early 90s I would have had to agree whole heartedly. Today, I would have to disagree, I have, in the last several years, been witness to several young men across the volleyball nation that are 6' to 6' 1", 2", or 3" that can out jump the 6'5" guy or get as high as the 6'7" guys. One young man at in particular at 5'11" lead all of college DI schools in scoring this past season. During the MIVA tournament I watched a smaller more athletic IPFW team absolutley HUMILIATE a much taller Ohio State team. It was like watching the Keystone Cops play. Outside hitters can't be brutes anymore and just pound the ball down. They have to have a repertoire of shots, be able to read the court and see the open seam. Unfortunately, the majority of coaches can't see past the height.

While Taylor Crabb from Long Beach and Mark Kocham from St Francis are both 6ft you will notice the rest of the players are ranging 6-2 to 6-9. Both have 40 plus verticals. I also Taylor was a top USAV A1/national team player. I believe if a player is 6ft tall and playing at the national level then he is a special player. In the Case of Rosenmeier vs Blevins. If you look at the HP site Rosenmeier is playing on the National team and A1 the year before. I believe Blevins has never played above the Continental level for USAV. Another side I was told by a different college coach that he could increase a players vertical 6 to 8 inches once he got him on a college lifting program and he could tell within 10 minutes watching the ability of the player to serve, hit and block whether he can play in college. The same coach said he did not look at what a hitter (OH/OPP) did in High School other then to make sure he was starting but rather what was more important was what he did in club because the setting and level of players was better where high school setters tend to focus on one player to set to.

Bret Rosenmeier missed the tournament this weekend in Richmond for an official visit to Hawaii? Is this true? If so, anyone know how serious of a contender they are for him?Selfishly, wish we could keep more players like him on the east coast.

Yes he was at Hawaii and they are very interested in him and may even make a trip to VB to watch him play highschool this fall.

Heard Joe Worsley is visiting Hawaii in a few weeks, anyone know if thats just vacation or a recruiting trip?
Also Kysen Olsen is one of the best opposites in this class no doubt. He is going to Long Beach State as well

Any word on who is looking at Dervay? He seems a little undersized to be a D1 setter.
