My opinion of the Larissa/Juliana pairing was that Juliana was the superior player between the two....any thoughts?

goldengirlsx3 just like Walsh and May alone they were good but together they were great. Larissa and Juliana both are very good. I cannot see Larissa coming back not in shape. Much like Kerri she steps on that court to win not make friends. I look forward to this. Miss hating her (joking I think) like I miss EY in the AVP.

Looks like Xue's foot injury is serious enough to keep her out of Gstaad. Xia entered with Y.Y. Ma.
As of this morning, Larissa/Talita still a reserve team for this tournament.

Reserve team! Well that sucks the fun out of this tourney. Hope that changes.

Doesn't suck for Taiana (unless you mean the fact that she lost Talita as a partner).
Taiana is entered with Fernanda and still has an automatic main draw entry because Juliana/Maria Elisa don't have enough entry points to be out of the qualifier yet.
Larissa/Talita do have a wildcard for the Hague and Taiana/Fernanda are in the qualifier for that tournament.
As of right now, Larissa/Talita are also a reserve team for Long Beach. Klagenfurt should be published tomorrow, but unless they have another wildcard, it seems like they would be locked out of that event as well.

For some reason I thought Tiana was left without a partner. I can't imagine the Brazilian Federation breaking Talita/Tiana up to make Talita miss tournaments due to not having enough points with Larissa. BUT, they did that on a smaller scale with Bruno/Pedro, so who knows. Plus, maybe they are thinking the teams of Larissa/Talita and Maria Antonelli/Juliana are the teams for 2016?

So, two days out and before the technical meeting, they've already posted the Men's Qualifier draw. Teams haven't even signed in yet... so this is kinda weird. Edit: They've taken it down. Makes sense, as men's teams haven't even signed in yet so it'll probably change. I have a copy of it up on my site if anyone wants to get a peek. volleyballsourcemag.com/news/2014/7/6/fivb-gstaad-grand-slam

If you haven't ever been to Gstaad, here's a little video I shot of what the tournament looks like. Don't worry though guys, cause if your luggage doesn't show up you can always drop $60 000 USD in town to get your stuff replaced.

Pavlik/Fopma win 2 today in qualifier to advance to main draw. They need to have a really strong finish to have a chance to get back ahead of Carico/Hochevar for the last couple slams of the year.
Surprisingly, Juliana/Antonelli need 3 sets to get past the Japanese team of Take-Mizoe and into the main draw.

It was a cold wet day today. I really hope it opens up a bit, but the forecast is looking like rain for this entire week. I checked out a couple matches, but really nothing fun to write home about yet. Tomorrow should be better. Here's a video of a wet & cold camkerr after the last matches of the day today.

Not to give you more work to do Klazk, but can you estimate how Pavlik/Fopma have to finish to retain the #3 spot?

Still, great place to spend a few days watching (or playing) volleyball.

It is the 4th sport (behind Walsh/Ross, Fendrick/Sweat and Summer/Day).
They've already lost it for The Hague, Long Beach and Klagenfurt. The last 2 slams take into account more tournaments than just Gstaad, so it isn't possible to calculate right now.
Stare Jablonki will take into account Gstaad, Hague and Long Beach. Brazil (assuming it happens) will take into account those 3 + Klagenfurt and Stare Jablonki.
Barring injuries, wildcards, team switches, etc.
Fopma/Pavlik will be in Gstaad and Long Beach Carico/Hochevar will be in Hague, Long Beach and Klagenfurt.
For Stare Jablonki, Carico/Hochevar are looking at approximately 1350 + points from their finishes in The Hague and Long Beach. For the same tournament Fopma/Pavlik are looking at approximately 820 + points from their finishes in Gstaad and Long Beach.
So Fopma/Pavlik have to make up 530 points in two tournaments, which is a fairly tall order.
For sake of illustration, let's say Hochevar/Carico get 25ths in both their tournaments. That would give them 1690 points. Fopma/Pavlik would need two 5ths in their 2 tournaments to pull back ahead of them. If Fopma/Pavlik get a 9th in Gstaad, they will need a 4th in Long Beach to even have a chance. A 17th, they will need a 3rd in Long Beach and a 25th and they will need a silver in Long Beach.
I guess Hochevar/Carcio could lose in the qualifier in The Hague which would change the worst case scenarios for them a little, but you get the point.
Bottom line, Fopma/Pavlik are going to have to play significantly better than they have all year plus Hochevar/Carico will need to lose early.
