Kerri/April also looking a bit shaky. Tough pool but two tight matches in pool play isnt exactly a habit for that team.

Walsh/Ross set up for another potential quarterfinal against Juliana/Antonelli. That really needs to be a semi final at least.

This whole tourney has had the #1 seed playing good teams. Makes it exciting. No easy medal for sure in this tourney.

Phil/Sean get a break because the Austrians took out the Italians. Are there injury issues there? Didnt that team forfeit some last week?

More FIVB seeding whining, how are Emmanuel/Salgado the 3 seed at a tournament midway through the year, when they havent even finished as high as third once all year? The Latvians, who appear to have had some sort of meltdown, are 5th when they have a Grand Slam second and an Open win? And only one previous bad finish?

Kerri/April also looking a bit shaky. Tough pool but two tight matches in pool play isnt exactly a habit for that team. Sort of called it. Great weekend for the Sound of Music countries, not so much for the American women, although Ross/Day did make a very creditable showing. On the men's side, even with the U.S.'s top team not entered, lots of US teams in the second round

If you haven't ever been to Gstaad, here's a little video I shot of what the tournament looks like. Don't worry though guys, cause if your luggage doesn't show up you can always drop $60 000 USD in town to get your stuff replaced. This video is really awesome. Thanks for all the videos you are posting. Looks like an unbelievably gorgeous place to play and visit!!! Lucky volleyball players...

Nick and Ryan into the semis with a huge win over the Spaniards. Stoked for Nick.... Ryan must be playing well, too. Also huge win against the Emanuel/Pedro in round 2. Too bad they have to face Rosie/Phil. I'm pulling for Ryan/Nick!!

Great finish for Nick/Ryan, but I think Phil/Sean have their number a little bit. The only times these teams have played it has been a blowout.
Its amazing how well Nick/Ryan have done this year. Arguably they have had more success this year than either Emmanuel or Ricardo. I think, depending on how they do, they have a legit claim as a top 5 team, which is incredible given that Ryan couldnt win a match last year.

I started typing about how Nick and Ryan were going to win, up 16-14 in the second game and having won the first game, but now it's 16-20 and it's slipping away
Edit: Phil and Sean win 15-13 in the 3rd.

Just asked Phil what he was thinking when Nick made that foot save. His response:
"Can I cuss?" "Yeah" "Son of a bitch"
Amazing

They have three 17ths to go with their silver and either bronze or 4th. You need more consistency to be considered top 5 IMHO.

I think this is a lot about what you value.
For reference sake, here are who I think the top 5 teams are: (not in order and not including Ryan/Nick)
1. Phil/Sean 2. Lupo/Nicolai 3. Smedins/Samilov 4. Allison/Bruno 5. Maybe Tri/John, Emmanuel/Pedro, Ricardo/Filho but there is almost nothing to separate these teams, even the Russians who won the Moscow Grand Slam and really havent done anything at all other than that deserve a mention
I see your point about consistency, but who has been consistent this year?
I was thinking top 5 if they made the final, but to compare them to Emmanuel/Pedro (who were seeded third this week, although I dont think they are quite that good)
The finishes:
E/P - 5/4/9/4/5/9 N/R - 17/17/2/17/3 (assumed)
Podium finishes are 2-0 for R/N
To start with Nick/Ryan should get a slight bump because, as qualifiers, they get a tough pool every single week. The first three events they got the 8/9 pool, then in Stavanger in with Phil/Sean and this week with Emmanuel/Pedro (the 3 seed)
Emmanuel and Pedro haven't always had a walk in pool, mostly because of Ryan/Nick and Tri/John, but at least 3 times they have had a comparatively simple task of getting the first round bye.
E/P definitely more consistent, but prize money aside, if someone told me I would have N/R's record or E/P's I'm not sure which I would choose, and since N/R have the additional handicap, I'd say its fairly even
