She wasn't playing at the end of the 3rd set or now in the 4th. She wasn't injured. My guess is the coach was not happy with her level of play, so he subbed her out. She did play against Poland today but was subbed out later during the match. Canada can be good, they just need to find their clicks. I would like to see Pavan back on the team with Gray and Gordon, but I am just wishful thinking that is all...

I remember when China was playing USA in the Grand Prix (I don't remember when) and she made this awesome set to the right side. Everyone on the U.S side for sure thought she was going outside because it was an out of system play. It was like butter on bread... smooth. I am currently watching her set for China now on a replay link against the Thais. China did host a tournament a couple weeks ago. Still the same old Wei.

I thought she would rock in Europe, but she chose the wrong club.. and after that experience I guess she will never leave China again.. I think she is one of the top if not the best setter out there right now.. Too bad she has health problems

Is the 14 player roster out for the first leg of the WGP yet? Interested to see if Larson will be playing since she was injured against Brazil.

Thoughts on the 1st weekend: Cuba is in really rough shape. Right now, Cuba is at best the 4th team in NORCECA, if not worse. Poland and the Netherlands look like the top teams in Pools J-O, with Belgium just behind. Czech Republic is in the drivers' seat in the other pool, as Bulgaria had to pull out a couple 5 set wins with its B-squad. Bulgaria should have its A squad on the court for the upcoming weeks. Kenya is surprisingly in 2nd place, though it's hard to see them advancing.

I was disappointed by Canada’s showing in Peru. They did not seem to be able to receive serve and pass well enough at this level to get the offence going, and an offence which, at that, is missing inarguably the two best front row players Canada has ever produced in S. Pavan and S. Gordon. While I know the team is quite young and needs more experience at the international level, I had hoped for a better result. It seems to me that for Canada to be competitive internationally it needs to field its best players—not just its best available players—and I am not sure if this roster meets that criterion. T. Love, who enjoyed a good career in the NCAA, including a national championship, sees a lot of time on the bench for Team Canada. I know she has played one year in Poland, but I am speculating that perhaps her passing is not yet what is required at the international level. J. Cross, who also had a good career in the NCAA, is the youngest player on the national team and hasn’t yet been named to a Grand Prix roster. I also really liked what A. Sawatsky accomplished as a setter at TAMU, but she is not on the national team radar, or perhaps the national team is not on her radar. And a perusal of Canadians on recent NCAA rosters shows a lot of middles and outside hitters, and few setters, all-round, or defensive players, which seems to be an issue for Team Canada.
One overall thought I have is that the specialization in NCAA volleyball might not be serving some of these players well in transitioning to the different demands of the international game.
I would be interested in any thoughts Team Canada fans—if there are any out there—have about the current team.

I would be interested in any thoughts Team Canada fans—if there are any out there—have about the current team. one problem I've noticed is that team canada does not appear to have any sort of youth or junior national teams set up for its female players. The men's side has a jnt and I think it's definitely instrumental in getting the best players in the country on te national team radar (such as Danny Demyenanko and Steven Maar, for you mens fans.) Another issue is that it seems as if players who have NCAA potential are not being introduced into the national team pipeline fast enough, whether it's due to players playing in canada getting priority, or players prioritizing sand/their ncaa teams first. I thknk the men's team has done a pretty good job in growing their program, it's time for the women to follow suit.
