There is a horrible high pitched sound on the recording, but the audio clears up about 1/2 through the first set.

I'd rather see an aggressive error than tipping to a waiting defender and hoping you can manage to block or transition the attack that comes next. Now tipping or half hitting it soft into the block then playing it back up that can work if you got the skill for it but didn't see that as much today. You do realize an aggressive error leads to zero chance to win a point, while a tip gives you some chance don't you? it would be interesting to see how many rallies were won/lost after the tip. Too many times I felt like Russia transitioned the tip dig into a kill almost immediately. US girls need to find the setter more with their tips/rolls. Or at least take out a front row wing player.

Yea or go deep corner make them move or tip it just over the middles left shoulder make one of the front row players dive to pick it up depending where on the court they are Idk...when they expect you to tip though it's just not going down very often even if it's placed well. I think our system is fine. It just requires very very crisp level of play to be effective especially against a good blocking and defense team. We could have moved our pin hitters around a lil bit to mess with their block but it wouldn't work for very long. Russia along with a few other teams always gives us trouble.

Brazil 3 X 1 China. China as predictable at their best couldn't hold brazilian old A team.

Two sets into the match, I can't believe how predictable the setting has become for USA. It seemed like almost all the sets were going fast to the left side in the first set, so I decided to keep track in the second set.
Sets to the left side: 17 Sets to the middle position: 4 (1 back row, 3 sets to middle two of which were un-hittable) Sets to the Right side: 9 (Several slides, only 2-3 were to our opposite) I'm pretty sure Murphy had more swings from the left in the second set.
I would say that I could predict 95% of Glass' setting choices before the balls even touched her hands in that second set. It doesn't matter how fast you run your offense if the setting choices are this predictable.
This isn't about scouting...... this is about a setter that is very easy to read.
A few other comments.... so many poor setting locations, What is the deal with Murphy on defense.... she looked like an amateur on defense. Frankly, the entire team played bad floor defense.

That's the nature of this offense that is being run. If the pass isn't there we force it fast to the outside, and today the pass wasn't there.

BTW, the only set that caught me off guard in that entire second set was the fairly quick set to Murphy out of the middle back. Only one.

Agree. Nothing happens with a poor pass. The "fast" offense turns into a predictable tool when the past is bad. for example, Chinese and Brazilians doesn't have bench who can properly pass, when the main player left the substitutes screw up all the team strategic. I am so pissed at the USA.. at Karch in particular.. He did not make a proper sub all the match.. he insisted on the same players.. I really like Adams, she is a great blocker but her connection is very bad with both setters so it was time to bring Gibby in, Rachael did not block anything last set and a half.. They played really bad, I was expecting way way more.. Russia is strong of course, but not that strong.. US themselves consider one of the finalists the last week and with this kind of play they won't get there

It wasn't a well-played match all the way around for USA, but Glass wasn't re-inventing the system with her set choices. The key to the match was that Russia scouted well, developed a game plan and executed it.

Does anyone have a link to the Turkey vs Japan match? I want to watch how Turkey is playing before tomorrow's match. It finished Turkey won 3-0.. Gozde was amazing, same was Neriman.. Good contribution by the others, only Seda wasn't playing good If USA plays their game, Turkey has no chance.. Their MB are way worse then those from the US and Alisha has to set them.. Also Gozde and Neriman wont have such easy time against high US block

Ok... I did a quick tally of the third set setting choices.... completely different story.
Left position: 9 Middle position: 11 Right position: 11
Both setter were obviously told to mix it up. Both, very much forced some sets to the right and middle.... unfortunately, they were very poorly located. The entire offense just looks out of whack... that I think has more to do with setting than passing.
While the faster tempo set may make things more difficult for the blockers, it sure seems to make the back row defense easier. Too many of those fast attacks were going straight to the arms of the Russian back row player.
