I don't entirely agree with the characterizations of Hugh's ability to "channel" the players inner anything. He was a good operational manager who set parameters and expectations, and handled conflict by not dealing directly with it, I gnoring it, or frankly, being a little misleading about it (ask Alisha Glass about that one). But he was pretty good about not letting his personal discomforts alter his decision-making process. Karch on the other hand exudes discomfort and awkwardness. The idea of creating a new "culture" for USA Volleyball can be a slippery slope, particularly if it relies on moral or character judgements.
Karch as a player was "tough guy" to handle during practices, just ask Bill! During games he was one of the most disciplined players!
He deserved his reputation and position without any questions! I think we are all a little bit judgmental right now. NT is still in
transition mode, so lets give Karch and team some time to developed. Would few ladies left off of the team help? Absolutely! Would they
be able to help in 2016 in Rio? I do not know. How many 32+ players still play at the high level we need to win? And how many of them
will be even older then 32 in 2 years? Will they have enough to continue to play tough club schedule plus International schedule for
another 2 years? As a NT coach Karch have to see his main goal and work to achieve it! I had few conversation with him and the ONLY things
his is talking is GOLD in Rio! I would trust his judgment as of now and see the development! One match should not be so much important, it
is a preliminary round. Actually this lost should help a father development. Go USA!
