She would need to be one of the top two MB's to get on the court and have the opportunity to run the slide. While she could presumably be very effective doing that, Nebraska puts a great deal of emphasis on the blocking role of the MB position. I'm guessing that is the part of her game that needs further refinement. It seems pretty obvious she was #4 out of 4 on the MB depth chart and the move to RS was to give her more opportunities and also provide depth at that position.

Why do you guys still think Fien and Ostrander have a shot at the OH2 spot? I'm genuinely curious. I thought you guys were smarter than that. Because that's what the head coach just said. Tomorrow it will be Ostrander.

Because Jeff Sheldon from the OWH reported (via Twitter) within the last hour that Ostrander will be a "definite starter at OH". Seems like a good reason to go with that thought process.

I think moving Ostrander around all these years has really increased her over all game. She has played about every position for The Huskers. I expect Ostrander to be playing throughout the season. She strikes me as a great RS though. I'm really happy for her and I believe she deserved this start as well.

Brent Wagner is also tweeting that Pollmiller is our setter, and that Hunter will redshirt...!!!

In addition to Ostrander starting at L2, Wagner also tweets that Albrecht will play back row for Ostrander... I'm already licking my lips for some back row attacks!!!!

From LJS: journalstar.com/sports/huskers/volleyball/cook-announces-starters-on-eve-of-first-match/article_d179d580-c9a9-5d1a-86f2-af412e7f4f44.htmlExcerpts from the article: "Ostrander beat out junior Kelsey Fien. Cook said Ostrander will get a long look at the position, and wonβt be sent to the bench if she has one bad set. βSheβs earned the right to be out there,β Cook said." "At right-side hitter, Cook expects both Amber Rolfzen and Kira Larson to play. Larson may hit and Rolfzen play back-row defense. Larson only seriously began training at right-side hitter last week." "The coaching staff kept detailed stats on the setters in practice, and Cook said it was very close between Pollmiller and Hunter. βKelly was OK with redshirting,β Cook said. βSheβll be the woman for three years after this year. I think Kelly has a chance to be an elite setter β a big-time setter. I think another year is not going to hurt her; sheβs going to be here for school anyway.β"

While I think it's great that Alicia will be the L2..I'm trying to understand how they'll stack up with the Big 10 without Robinson. Very young team. Kadie will have to take all responsibility of that position and it's "touch and go" with her based on what I've heard from the red/white scrimmage. Need to get right side going. Amber is capable of doing the job, but sometimes seems there's a mental thing going on. Wouldn't hesitate to use Kira. Middles, grading out average for me. Plus setter has a hard time setting them (mediocre).

Well....this is an interesting turn of events. Do all of you still think that Amber should be on the right side? If she doesn't play all the way around......what a waste of talent.

A. Rolfzen playing backrow for Larson...? That's an extremely interesting decision. I can't wait to see this team.

Kadie Rolfzen is our go-to left-side, but she needs some time and some breathing room! The pressure being placed on her right now is enormous, overwhelming, excessive, etc. The comparisons to Robinson are void, IMO. Kadie Rolfzen needs to play like Kadie Rolfzen, not Kelsey Robinson. They're two different people, two different players, on two different teams, during two different years. This could be Kadie's coming-of-age season, but every good coming-of-age story has bumps along the way.

Red, I understand your thought process on Amber moving to the left, but last season, the one rotation she could swing on the left they usually stacked Kadie out there and had her hit a 5 or had Kadie come in for a 2. Amber was hardly used in rotation 1 outside during that serve receive. If she was leaps and bounds better than the rest on the outside like you think she is, I'm sure Cook would move her there in a heart beat, so maybe there is some logic to his madness.
